So I've just finished season 2 of the anime and I gotta ask: is that all there is to Kaiji's life? Is this manga series just him suffering, repeating the same mistakes and going back to square one over and over again, for hundreds of chapters, as long as the manga sells well? Cause I get the appeal of seeing a character struggle for a long time and finally achieve what everyone thought was impossible, but not if he's just gonna keep screwing up and losing everything soon after. It feels like a twisted version of what's going on with Ash in Pokémon lol.

No it isn't like that actually. I would highly recommend the manga.

Could you elaborate? Cause I genuinely don't understand how the manga can keep going if Kaiji actually wins at one point. Like, if he hadn't be too greedy at the end of the first part and too naive at the end of the second, the story would already be over. And there's like... 500 chapters after that? How? I guess he keeps putting himself in these dangerous situations willingly to help other people or something like that, is that the case?

It's hard to answer this question while avoiding spoilers, but I guarantee you that Kaiji's suffering wasn't some sort of sadistic fanservice that goes on to gain views, he does evolve into a stronger and smarter person, it's clear by this point that he's being built up to actually defeat Hyoudou at the end.

If you liked the anime then I highly recommend the manga (also a side note, the next arc has a game of Mahjong, but it's much a simpler version that you can understand from the context, so you don't need to learn the actual game, just keep reading the manga).
