My favorite part was when Ryuuku said "I don't care if it is fortunate or unfortunate that raito picked up the death note. However... It is generally bad luck for a person to be followed by a Shinigami."

Ryuuku is by far my favorite character. I love the combination of childhood amusement and god of death.

Light is so awful lol. Doesn't even care about his father's well-being, and is just putting on an act.

So the chief believes Kira is not evil, it's the power to kill that is truly evil? Hmm, perhaps there is some truth to that. When given such immense power, I think many otherwise good people would do absolutely horrid things despite following their ideals.

I don't have any sympathy for Light, nor would I justify his actions at all. Still, despite what he says, picking up the Death Note was indeed a misfortune for him. He would've turned out as a decent person, but instead, great power drew out the most unpleasant qualities lurking inside him. I think I can agree that he's not truly evil.

I think a Death Note really would draw out the worst things in any person who found it. And I like how Light is able to hold up his act really well. Sure, he's a Mary Sue in terms of characterization, since he's almost perfect... but damn if it isn't fun to see how this battle between geniuses plays out! I just wish they made him a bit less ruthless and egoistic. He totally doesn't really care about his father and family that much, and doesn't show any remorse at all for killing innocent people as well, like the small fry criminals and the FBI agents. I think his character would have been more interesting if he was a little bit more humane. But he's still a really fun villain protagonist.

Soichiro Yagami is one of the most driven and tragic characters that I've come across. The dilemma of having to suspect his son of being Kira while battling and hoping for the suspection to be deemed wrong. And, at the same time, never giving up on trying to catch Kira and fighting for true justice. I absolutely love his character!

I agree with you, OgaZoSo. Mr. Yagami is a remarkable character, with a truly unfortunate position as chief of police and as a loving father.

This chapter was agonizing. To see Mr. Yagami work himself ill and find himself in the middle of his son and Kira. Mr. Yagami's dialogue about Kira not being evil but the power he was given being the true source of evil. As Ratio assures Ryuk that coming into the possession of the Death Note was the happiest day of his life. Chilling! It shows how much of Ratio is just gone now and how much Kira is growing in identity. When Ratio mentions needing to play the part of the son, at his father's side. It becomes evident that Ratio is no longer the dominant part of himself.

Mr. Yagami and Ratio are completely opposite. The father is an honorable example of aspiration.
