For me it's not the best isekai out there. But what I love from Grimgar is their realism approach especially towards the character. Individually and collectively they are weak and need to work hard to develop. Also they're struggling financially, hence they're short on basic needs. With that, I feel more emotionally attached to them.

So are there any anime with that kind of struggle out there? I would like to check that out. Thanks!

There is nothing I know of like grimgar that goes that deep in the characters among isekais.
but you may like tokyo ghoul, there is also a lot of struggles mc have to deal with, brutal scenes and good plot but I think Dororo is best shot for similar anime

Goblin Slayer is exactly what you’re looking for. The same realism approach.
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

Just a lot more rapey.

edit: and the earlier mentioned Genjitsushugisha no Oukokukaizouki "How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom" is way more political and realm buildy than gritty struggling adventurer. It's still a good watch though, just not quite the same energy.

Really the only way to get more Grimgar is to get into the light novels because let me tell you they are not done struggling. :D

madoka magica; being a magic girl wasnt easy for some characters and they went through a lot... Made in abyss also has similar struggles though they both arent isekai...

Good luck with that, I haven't seen a show quite like like grimgar, but if you find one I'd like to know.
Most of the recommendations here aren't bad though.

anime with alot of struggle that comes to mind is kaiji ultimate survivor. It's got a relatively unique art style but it fits with the premise and there is plenty of struggling there but has little to do with fantasy or isekais.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of it but also managed to enjoy the show despite that. But I've generally got a high tolerance for what I can put up with if there's something I like.

There's overrated crap like Sword Art Online where the main character is a Mary Stu, is good at everything and everything is happening for him and nobody dies, well, only insignificant characters, because they haven't unlocked the Plot Armor ability.

This might be a bit from the left field but Houseki no Kuni / Land of the Lustrous might be a good pick. It certainly has a lot of common in terms of the struggle the characters go through while not knowing much about their world, and how the struggle changes them in the long run.

Parysite the Maxim might also work, but this one is less of a character piece like Grimgar or Houseki no Kuni are.

I also second Made in Abyss as a suggestion.
