Not only was half the "movie" just a recap of content that isn't even necessary to understand what is going on but once you do get to the new stuff it's just child grooming the anime. Really sad a story like this can be so highly rated in current year.

it's not half of the movie, it's first 25 minutes. I had watched fruits basket original around when it was airing so after almost a year I had forgotten pretty much of the details, the recap was pretty helpful.

Well, at least, the recap was done by Kyo, which, for me, give more buildup, more impact to Kyoko's backstory.

Like when kid Kyo ask does Kyoko still want to meet Katsuya again or not, Kyoko said "I wonder how many mistakes, how many time for you to take, until you found the answer?" and her backstory in this movie is the answer we need to find out from Kyoko's POV. I think the way they set or arrange the recap cut is great, like its become important and relevant to the movie.

I don't think the movie was highly rated at all I enjoyed every bit of it... the first 25 minutes which is claimed here to be "half" of the movie kind of set the right "tone" for me... though I agree it was not that necessary, after that the movie really was quite enjoyable with seamless pacing and well Katsuya was an amazing husband Kyoko was just as amazing of a character (she had suffered a lot and was strong enough to smile) ... the emotions hit me in the right place and OSTs satisfied my Sonic palate just fine.

overall an amazing movie and definitely not overrated

the recap was perfectly fine, there wasn’t enough content to fit inside a movie, and it was too long to be an ova. the recap wasn’t some lazy ass recap where it tries to tell you the plot but skips important details, this recaps the main moments between kyo and tohru and it does it well

The recap was less than half an hour and with one additional scene of Kyo getting a nightmare before he inquires Tohru if she loves him.

I'd be willing to be my left nut it was at least 30 mins of this "movie" even if it was 2 mins though the whole thing was just about a dude grooming a child from a dysfunctional family.
