That result was so obvious that it's pretty meh to me. I gather one will win and one will lose, but I'm hoping the author is kind enough to let Chihaya and Arata win, not something like Chihaya defeat and Arata winning. The author made it unnecessarily long, so I hope the outcome is clear.
I like to post in manga forum when I feel it is worth it, so people will think. "Shit, is her again" or something.

People asked me where I read certain thing but the rules say no telling where did you read so maybe I am too boring for not saying? Or salty because you didn't check my profile that says don't ask because I hate people to ghost me after that. I love learning languages so maybe I did not read the manga in English.

Might do a full review later. So "Se" and "Taichi" are left. I think "Se" will be the winning card since there's more to work with-Shinobu has some sort of connection to it, the connection to the trio, Chihaya not being able to take from Shinobu in the last match, being an important card to Arata, being the first card Chihaya ever took-which means both Arata and Chihaya will stick with "Taichi". A trio moment can happen with either card so I'm really curious as to what Suetsugu has planned. Maybe "Taichi" staying on the tatami will be a way to show that Taichi is alongside both Arata and Chihaya during their victories and/or maybe it will be another push for him to continue his competitive karuta journey. He'll come to realize he has to be the one to take his namesake card, the same way Arata took "Wataya" and Chihaya took "Chiha". Did anyone else notice how Kana didn't enter her Mizusawa mental landscape despite Chihaya taking "Tago"? Maybe it'll happen next chapter. I read that 246 made the editor cry and should have extra pages, can't wait to read the climax!

Being selfish or selfless... that's the conflict Taichi was confronted with. Supporting his friends selflessly or selfishly wanting to be on that stage. Sumire in a way was the best person to understand his feelings because she wants Taichi to be happy but also wants him to break away from Chihaya so he might look at her.....

It's clear that she saw his resolve here.
His own dream becoming tangible. Making swings imagining taking his favourite card. (Nice parallel with Chihaya) He had been running away the whole day and his discussion with Chitose sure was fruitful. Thank god he didn't get on that train to Tokyo. He isn't running away anymore. So nice how in parallel Taichi and Chihaya both thank and pass the Mizusawa flame onto the 2 new leaders as the Hanano and Aki poem are read.(Taichi:"I wonder if she took it?" Always connected, even apart) They step into Chihaya's imagenary room.

The matches are quite fast paced and it's hard to look at Suou who is having a hard time with all the strain put on his eyes. Missing Chiha because he couldn't see it was just heartbreaking. Sudo crying for Suou is so touching and Suou is accepting this support.....how can you not get teary when he takes the Yura poem "I know not where this love will take me"....when you think about his karuta journey and how unsure it all is for him.

It must be hard on Arata because he knows, but going easy on him isn't an option.

Shinobu takes her grandmother's favourite poem, and Chihaya goes for Tsuku, poem 13, maybe my favourite poem and sees Komano and Nishida...."we don't want it to end"...this makes me weak cause so many things are going to end, their highschool life, the club, the manga....all good things come to an end. Chihaya can't take Oe but Kana Chan has a second card Tago. Chihaya hears her talking to Kokoro and gosh we get her thoughts on everything she received from her : her friendship, the poems, the images, the meaning...in this panel on Chihaya's bottom right Tachi is on the tatami 😭.

Chihaya and Arata both take Tago, destination the peak of mount Fuji.

They both have to send a card and have 2 cards left: Se and Tachi.

Gosh....there are multiple combinations of what could happen here. I've been imagining what could happen....here is what I think might go on: Usually one keeps the card, you think will be read:
I think Arata will keep Se, it is probably the only other card we have seen him have a special attachment to. He will send Tachi.

I think Chihaya will send Se and keep Tachi on her side because she needs his support and will defy his bad luck curse. If Taichi is watching he won't agree with her cause strategically it would be better to keep Se which is now a 1 syllabel card. I think Se will be the winning card and Chihaya will take it Shiranami style. Symbolically it would be so fitting...Se being a trio moment of reuniting, Chihaya keeping Tachi as a throwback to *he has always been here* and Suou will lose but I think he had and will have Taichi by his side to help him like Sudo in several ways, what I sort of fantasize is Taichi becoming an eye doctor and well....being there for him.....these are just my ramblings and speculations... Sensei always has her own way of seeing things 😂

PS the flowers around Sumire are probably tulips. I'd go for yellow ones because of the symbolism: one sided love.

What a perfect way to end volume 49. For those that may not know, the cover is Taichi with lotus flowers. They stand for many things, and rebirth happens to be one of them.

-Chihayaburu! The two have reconnected with themselves and are now playing with their own passion. This final match is no longer about his grandfather or saving Shinobu, it's about fulfilling their childhood dream. Chihaya and Arata embracing their younger selves is a heartwarming and fitting end to the "Chiha" scene.

-Everyone celebrates except for Taichi, he leaves the room with only Sumire noticing. She's understandably worried, she believes it's become too painful for him to continue watching the match, to continue watching Arata and Chihaya move forward together/move towards each other. This is a sentiment I've seen shared among readers, but to her (and our!) surprise, it seems that Arata and Chihaya moving forward has inspired him to do the same! He imagines playing both matches because both Arata and Chihaya saved him, Sumire cries in relief/joy. This is the moment of Taichi's rebirth, the moment he comes to find or realize his very own dream (paralleled with chapter 27!). Having waited for Taichi to realize Omi Jingu is still a destination for him, I was overjoyed when he did. What a beautiful moment for his character. It becomes even more beautiful with the presence of Sumire (whether you ship them or not), the person who always seems to be near during his most notable moments of growth.

-It's for tough on Suo, but if Arata takes it easy on him, then it'll be disrespectful to him as a karuta player. I feel for him, but know it's going to be okay. We know Sudo will always pick up the cards for him, we know his aunt is willing to learn braille karuta, and we know there's another door for him. Whether Suo wins or loses, his karuta journey won't end with this match and that's all that matters. "Please keep taking them Suo-san" line which can also be applied to Taichi and his own journey. Just keep going, keep moving forward.

-Sumire's (9) card is read, but we don't know if Chihaya takes it. Then Tsukuba's (79) card is read, and we see the two of them enter her Mizusawa landscape together. In this scene, we see how far Chihaya has come as a character. She's more observant/perceptive of those around her and understands what they mean to the club-what they mean to her. At the same time, Taichi thanks Sumire for joining the club-the flowers that bloom around her look like snow crocus (one of their meanings is romantic devotion). And extends his thanks to Tsukuba as well. Surely those two are the torchbearers-I hope Sumire is the one to take on the role of the president.

-The girls continue to challenge the norm. Not only are they playing five games, but they're taking the necessary breaks. Whether it be to stretch or stay hydrated. I love it!

-It seems that Chihaya doesn't have a card for Nikuman after all. This part upset me quite a bit since he's one of the OG members of Mizusawa so it would only make sense for him to have one. Tsutomu's card (13) is read and the two enter Chihaya's landscape. The following scene is bittersweet-Mizusawa, their teenage youth, and their time together is coming to an end. Even the manga will be entering its final volume.

-Chihaya is breathing heavily and looks tired, but hearing Kana pulls her forward. She wasn't able to take card 60 but honors Kana by taking card 4. She was the first person to teach Chihaya the rich history behind the 100 poets and that hasn't been forgotten after all this time. I believe this scene is supposed to parallel chapter 32. A beautiful moment between the two girls, but I noticed that Kana didn't enter her Mizusawa landscape? Maybe it'll happen in 246 and maybe Taichi will be alongside her since the members seem to be entering in pairs.

-Card 4 happens to be another dual take between Arata and Chihaya. They continue to move towards the lofty peak of Mt. Fuji no matter the wasteland that may await them. What a change from chapter 231 where Chihaya was crying that the thought of reaching the peak. Perhaps knowing that Arata will be there alongside her helped calm her nerves.

-It's come down to luck of the draw. "Se" and "Taichi" are left on the mat, but which will be the victory card? I still believe it's going to be "Se" because of what it means to various characters. Arata shouldn't send it out since it's a special card to him, but Chihaya will send it since her style is offensive and this time, she'll be able to take the card from Shinobu. We've seen her connect "Se" to Taichi, but that moment wasn't strong enough so will she have to think about another memory? Perhaps Chihaya will remember "Se" was the very first card she took. There's so much that can be done with it! As for Taichi, I'm interested in what Suetsugu plans to do with it/what it symbolizes. Maybe it's meant to show us that Taichi is there on the tatami right alongside Chihaya and Arata in this special way, or maybe it's a sign that Taichi needs to be the one to take his namesake card, he can't rely on anyone else to do this which means he has to continue his karuta journey.

The next chapter will be the climax, and will supposedly have extra pages. It even made the editor cry, what a way to start the final volume!

I'd be very surprised if Chihaya and Arata don't come out on top, but as a Shinobu fan I wouldn't mind if that was the case though lol

Fucking hot garbage.
This manga is pure trash now.
"When they're alive, you can enjoy watching them struggle. When they're dead, you can enjoy tearing out their guts. Tales are things you get to enjoy twice."
