About Japanese tv rating and preference

Okay so basically this series is entering the top 10 best rated anime tv this season. It's not really normal for any series to enter that. No seasonal anime got that high rate this season. And I think the rating of this anime rival One Piece as well. Not only that, I think I've seen this anime trending several times in Japan Twitter.

So far this anime is very mid imo. And I also think majority of watchers outside Japan though the same. Not only that, this anime is also nowhere near popular. I don't think I ever heard someone talk bout this.

Do any of you guys understand the reason of this?
About how the Japanese tv rating system work, why it's trending on Japan, etc?

Could it be because of its timeslot? Most anime that have high ratings are family friendly stuff that airs at 17-18 hrs and this anime fit that

I don't know why people think it is mid when I actually think it is really doing well, I don't know about Ryman's Club but this one is based on traditional Badminton and the characters are really engaging according to me

Rika Mizushima is probably one of the best girls of this season for me, Yusa Kento is not your average sport idol instead he had been shown as a jerk who just have outstanding skills, the newbie friend circle really fits the story but yeah it had it's own flaws like Yusa's motivation of playing badminton, Mizushima's really slow progress in his game, etc. So in brief I think this show is good imo (or maybe I need to watch more sports anime)

Easily a strong 7/10 for me

I think the show from a story point of view is really good and better than hanebado and ryman's club

but for someone that plays badminton the physics is kind off meh comparing to hanebado

(should keep in mind tho that hanebado has the best animated badminton)

Still would give 6-7/10 for the story

I think this has something to do with the TV station that broadcasts this anime, it’s the exact time slot and the same station as My Hero Academia (great TV ratings when MHA was broadcasted) so it’s pretty much captured the majority of the audience who watched the TV at that time while there’s nothing else to watch on other stations!
