I can’t remember the whole anime because it’s been a while so I could be wrong. I would say that morally they were good, because I think they were trying to protect the kids, not from the other humans/their families, but from what they were( can’t remember if they called the unknown). Also another thing was that they wanted to have their own kid, and they did.
