Back in the days I watched anime and tone in it was very sunny like cheerful comedy. Few weeks ago I started to read LNs and I'm currently in Vol 5. I was very surprised how dark and brutal this can be. LN is still cheerful comedy but here people suffer and die brutally which was never transmitted in anime at all. Basically they don't care if some bandit gets killed and they always plot how to maximize income so they can sold those bandits for money to slavery. They also seems to have no moral problems to kill bad guys.

I'm not complaining at all about this but it was surprising. Often MCs in stories are portrayed as heroes who don't kill and they try to save everyone. Especially in isekai where MCs often tries to insert their own modern morals to fantasy world. Mile here doesn't do that. Here Mile doesn't seem to give shit about others. Their group even broke legs of captured enemies so they don't can't move fast. Mile just seems to go with the flow and only care about her friends. It is really refreshing I would say to see MC like this who can "update" her morals to match world's standards.

2 whole years late here, but I’m at vol 14 right now and I think you misunderstood some things. While there are moments when the events can get pretty dark, and the main cast have no issue with breaking limbs and stuff like that, none of them except Reina (that one time in her backstory) have ever actually killed anyone, and they still have the japanese hero character trait where they often save everyone they come across, and avoid any deaths if possible.

While they’re less reticent when it comes to some brutal things (e.g. snapping bandits’ legs like you mentioned) none of what they do is irreversible, and no deaths actually happen on screen (…on page??). Even when story events get dark, they 99% of the time resolve in the best way possible, with those involved usually ending up better off than before.

As you too said in your post, this isn’t to complain about the story or anything. But i think it’s a pretty typical isekai story in these respects
