It's been years since I've seen any anime related content from the Black Rock Shooter franchise. This show's first episode had that sci-fi action packed opening I did expect.

Story feels kinda stale at the moment but I did somewhat like the choreography. Black Rock Shooter still seems like a skilled action girl using her guns in battle. Music was a highlight in this first episode so far. Will have to see how much they develop the story.

A new Black★Rock Shooter series after a whole decade, and being an anime-only fresh into the franchise despite each series being a self-contained story.

Bibury Animation Studios and Tensho's take on the franchise with Psycho-Pass screenwriter Makoto Fukami at the helm of this new Dawn Fall series, it certainly is a treat to look at, but being grotesque-feeling with the studio's in-house CG animation department.

Though Empress (Black★Rock Shooter) looks like herself, she is refreshed new for this entry, and with the know-how that she is one of three surviving guardians of humanity to face against Artemis on her trusty Black Trike military vehicle.

The special forces leader of the peace-building force resisting the AI Artemis, Colonel David is here to transit her mission to obliterate Artemis, though things take a liberal turn that they're blindsided by Artemis forces, and Strength coming in at the last moment for a fight reunion.

ALL USERS PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
Forget about getting subs to watch this one since this is exclusive to Disney+ in Japan (just like Summertime Render).
Fansub groups, we desperately heed your call on both shows.

I've never been so excited about a show's release in years yet this is exclusive to Disney+, I can't believe it doesn't even show up on their catalog in other regions.

If I recall correctly, Disney+ is planning to release subbed episodes of the animes they've picked in English only after the Japanese Broadcast of said series is completely finished. Either way a fansub should come within the next 2 weeks.

Hopefully this is so, and this is just another Netflix Japan situation again considering the sus-ness of this.

If is to say things that I really didn't liked, was Dead Master having bright green hair. And second having Disney+ like Netflix, hating to subtitle things.

Whoever designed that bike is a PC gamer, to put RGB as important feature.

I hope that isn't the final design of the ★rock Cannon. I really like the standard one.

I really like that Miya was ready to use that grenade.

Joined Disney+ just for this, so it better be decent.

Episode 1 was alright. It's very clear that this has nothing to do with the story of the original anime series, with the post apocalyptic world setting and all.

The animation was actually pretty good. CG action was cool, and much improved when compared to the first season.

Unfortunately, this has a feel of a plain "girls fighting evil robots" vibe, and is lacking the psychological story that made the first season so good. I guess that shouldn't come as a surprise, with Mari Okada no longer working on the script.

post apo setting, ai project gone berserk led by artemis, taking over the world ,the humans need to prevent the white faction from building the space bridge between earth and moon, which would allow them send the forces from moon to earth. pre generic setting. i'd say its ok, just focus on the action and keep the story simple ,most ppl prob alr forgot what was the tv series BRS abt anyway, and doesnt seems to have any connection to it so people can just straight pick it up

subs by 4chan Anon is out [EdgyLesbians] Black Rock Shooter - Dawn Fall - 01 [09B9A4CF]

so this new story is definitely a reboot, where full automation or technological singularity of society unintentionally created Evil Robots or Evil Strong AI that really wants to become the next humans and replace them

but Empress or Black Rock Shooter is a robot with nanomachines technology that is on the side of humans

Couple of things that I didn't like much, but overall it had really strong bits and some weaker. Everything on the sfx and music side is an A++ for me. Animation could get awkward, but I think I'm just a little unused to their style. Action was really smooth tho.

The plot of the episode felt rushed, but for a first episode it might be good to set some context that won't have to be introduced later on.

*headphones for better experience in my opinion*

Finally got to watch it and holy shit, I enjoyed it a lot. The CG could fare better overall but I love the crunchy sound design. Everything feels "westernized" and I mean that in the best sense of the word, it fits nice considering the artworks huke would produce back in the day and just goes well with the setting overall, I cant wait to see how this will develop along the season.

I’m hoping the anime gets better. Based on the score so far, it’s pretty understandable why it’s pretty mixed right now. So far plot doesn’t really explain itself much or rather tries to. The pacing so far is horrible like this could’ve been 2 or 3 episodes crammed in together with a tight budget. I like the music so far, but sometimes it’s played over inappropriately without too much care. I sort of like the animation and some of the designs. That motorcycle looks pretty cool. Just wished or hoping to see her iconic long coat, or maybe we’ll see it in the future who knows.

So this is a reboot I would presume. Plot is kinda vague on this first episode but hopefully it will improve eventually. And Empress, Black Rock Shooter is now voiced by Ishikawa Yui which is kinda nice.

Also, I'm pissed with Disney+ not simulcasting this (copying the Netflix model) that I have to resort to watching the show on illegal ways. I do prefer watching anime and other media in legal way as much as possible so having to sail the high seas (again) is kinda annoying.

Kind of frustrated that since it's a reboot we don't have the same talented fight design that made the original BRS so popular. I was skeptical of the original announcement, and to give my personal valueless opinion.... It wasn't too good. I'll watch the next few episodes that drop but the expectations are going to be similar based on the plot.

The story reminds me too much of the cookie cutter CGI cartoons from the mid 2000s. Call me an edgelord, but the washed out gritty style of the world and art style worked with the characters designs, putting them in a post apocalyptic city just wastes the mystique that surrounded the original characters.

Perhaps someone could lend me another perspective and help me see appeal in it, I just thought the original series was better in terms of fights and story. And by rewriting the characters for a reboot just feels kind of wrong to me. Any insight would be appreciated, thank you!

Just from the first episode itself, it's clear this has nothing to do with that TV series and OVA, a complete reboot in other words. As usual nothing to take from the plot, and it's even more this time. I do hope i atleast get a gist of what's happening in later episodes. Also no HanaKana for BRS? Kinda sad tbh.

It's probably because I'm overly attached to the original OVA and anime, but this reboot feels weird to me. I feel like the charm that got me in the original is gone, and that this reboot is just pretext for cute anime girls fighting big scary stuff and... other, unsettling, stuff we saw in the episode. I hope that "kind of grotesque" isn't too pushed throughout the story.

Not sure how to feel about this, I guess its no surprise I was sceptical. I wasn't a fan of the new design especially with the original being so iconic. The pacing of this episode was whack, the visuals would either be okay or atrocious and some parts just look out of place.

Apart from that the music is good, idk where the story is heading but I hope future episodes are better than this one.

I expected this to be pretty bad but god i was amazed by how fucking trash this is
CGI is overused to absolute shit
artstyle looks like shit
the character designs look like failed abortions of Huke's characters
story has nothing interesting as of episode 1
music has 0 relation to what is happening in the episode. They are fucking playing intense rock music while slowly panning through a post apocalyptic area in the intro

half of the cast is from azur lane including the god damn lead animation director, this is licensed by Disney, soundtrack is unoriginal and mostly boring. Theres just so much wrong with this series its a complete disappointment

the only good thing in this episode is literally the puppet guy fucking a corpse

Man, this was bad. REALLY bad. Damn near got whiplash from that breakneck pacing and the CGI is so much worse than the original TV anime. Which, remind you, is ten years old now!! The fight choreography just can't even compare, I mean, what was that punch from Strength? It had no oomph, no impact! And the new design for Black Rock Shooter looks so weird. Why the hell did they take away her hooded cloak, that's what made the original look so cool! Same goes for Strength and what I assume was Dead Master, their designs are horrible now! This staff just seems so incompetent.......

I honestly doubt that I'm gonna finish this anime, even though I loved the OVA and TV anime. To be fair, their stories appealed to me much more than this, but I wouldn't mind them going in such a different direction (more sci-fi, similar to the PSP game) if the set-up wasn't so bad! If I do end up finishing this, I'm pretty sure my score will be a 4 at best.......
