I don't know how well this anime movie did overseas or in Japan, but for a 2012 release I am surprised at how neat the animation and art style is. The art style, at least outside of the game, isn't super or amazing but it flows well. I like the way it looks, and especially The World looks like a game that I would want to play in VR. It's clean but not too clean, cartoony, dynamic, and alive. Maybe the story isn't the best or it's not a good .hack entry (I dont know) but I think this movie in production rivals something like the popular sword art online .

Also I appreciate how real life in this movie looks plausible in our reality. Some technological devices are a little silly or different from what some people in the world now use in 2022, but a lot of it is largely grounded in reality. Stuff like the MC's Alexa-like robot, ipads in school, vr glasses, etc.
