Does it mean that it will be possible to make proposals to this higher council? Will this higher council be responsible of the decision to ban people (from either the club or the Discord server) and be in charge of appeals from now on? Will the importance of the Discord server be clarified? The official information say that it is not needed, but on a few occasions, announcements made on the Discord server were not repercussed here, and it seems that #work is quite necessary. Will transparency be made about the lottery system (that could occur publicly for example)? Will a system like the one that prevails on MAL about bans ever be implemented?

Last, but not least, will the decision to accept or refuse a coordinator be (publicly!) justified in the future (for more transparency; say that a candidate who contributed "more" than a few coordinators unsuccessfully applies, a rationale should be provided to explain a possible rejection of their application)?
> Does it mean that it will be possible to make proposals to this higher council?
Yes, feel free to make any suggestions at any time! Most likely, they will be discussed amongst all the coords.
> Will this higher council be responsible of the decision to ban people (from either the club or the Discord server) and be in charge of appeals from now on?
We will continue to follow our ban system (four strikes) for the time being. Appeals can start from any coordinator (though I think Comet would be the one to go to as the moderator manager).
> Will the importance of the Discord server be clarified?
That's a good idea, and I'll try to amend the wording of our acceptance PMs in the future. I know previous announcements have not always been presented here as well, but we will try to reflect the relevant announcements on both sites.
> Will transparency be made about the lottery system (that could occur publicly for example)?
I've always tried to be transparent about the lottery system, but I think it has never been formally conveyed. Our goal is to give every single person at least one series they asked for. We run the raffle through the script, but often times, not every one gets anything. After that, I manually search each person and make sure every one gets at least one thing. I think I still have my scratchwork from when I did the Winter 2022 assignments, so I can show that to you any time.
> Will a system like the one that prevails on MAL about bans ever be implemented?
Honestly, this system was only brought to my attention a day or two ago, and I had no idea about it beforehand. It's very interesting, and I will totally bring it up with the rest of the coordinators.

I like to think we haven't actually "rejected" any of the applicants. We still keep all apps on the backburner in case we need to bring someone new on, so we try to avoid formally rejecting anyone. Since the coordinator process happens very rarely, I can look into having more transparency in the future. We don't solely look at contributions to the club, but also activity on Discord, helpfulness in answering questions in #work, and goals for Rewrite (the application asks what you hope to do as a coordinator).
Hope this answers your questions. Pardon the shoddy formating since I don't often use the forums ^^;
Thank you very much for your reply.

This is good to know.

Perhaps it would be good to precise that (Comet has this role) in the Discord server.

This is good to know, I know that there has been some confusion about that, notably about the website.

That seems like a very good system, and it could (easily) be automated I believe. Choosing randomly amongst the maximisers of a suitable function (such that f(x_1,...,x_n)<f(y_1,...,y_n) for all x_1,...,x_n and y_1,...,y_n satisfying y_i>0 for all 1≤i≤n and x_j=0 for some j∈{1,...,n}, where the (integer) variables x_i,y_j represent the number of synopses given to the "player" i—of course, one would also require a similar property for "higher order" i.e., with two variables, that max{f(1,3),f(3,1)}<f(2,2). By the way, such a function exists). Thank you for the kind offer, I would be happy to look into it. A good algorithm would allow one to remove all manual intervention, and the lottery could happen in real time through a screen sharing on Discord (say). Needless to say, I would volunteer to help with that (I have been thinking about that since a while).

This is a pity hearing that considering that there does not seem to be a reason why things would be stricter on a MAL Discord server than on MAL (where people post much less and strikes [bans] are not semi-automatic). I am glad to hear that this topic will be brought up to the attention of other coordinators! If I understand it correctly, one could get banned from the Discord server but stay in the club whilst the Discord server has become almost necessary?

Great to hear, thank you for precising that. The Discord point is quite interesting considering that the activity in #chat-#animanga-discussion-#art is rather orthogonal to the duties of an administrator, and that Glacialis was basically inactive there.

No worries, it was very readable.

Thank you for the detailed questions, sir. You have given us a lot to discuss and think about to make the leadership team more transparent and accountable in the future!
Thank you for taking the time to think about those questions! |
