This is just my 3rd Donghua after "The king's Avatar" and "Link Click".
Apart from link click the other two seemed to have a very erratic storyline with a lot of random things happening. It's like there's no continuity between so many episodes, is this normal for most Donghua?

I really don't know about the whole Donghuas and about it being random.. But Daily Life of an Immortal King just explains your question from it's name itself.. It's just a Slice of Life Donghua which follows the Daily life of the King Wang Ling

Oh you're right!
Hmmm I see... That makes sense.
But it's still weird when they combine an adventure and a slice of life. After all adventure's more fun with a longer and more in depth story.

I know right, XD.. We can literally sense different genres in each Episode. But I love how they give a Main Arc at the end.. Like the Battle between Factors in the 1st Season and the Demon War II Arc in the 2nd Season. They Literally Tease it with the Awesome Opening and I enjoy watching all the Chill Eps and waiting for it till the end..

Could've definitely done more than a 4 minute fight for the demon emperor though. Lol.
But the openings and endings for most Donghua's in general are amazing!!

Lol, You're right thou. 1st Season was better imo. But yeah, I accept it too. Doungha Openings and Endings slap in different level. And I really hope you would have watched Link Click.

I still have to add so many more, haven't even reached the half way point. all these days I used to keep a note list on my phone but then I figured it's about time I actually made a mal account. I was just too lazy till now.

Haha, I guessed it, XD. Yeah, Keeping a MAL account really helps. Hope you'll get time to add all the Anime to your DB. And if you don't mind, Suggest any Underrated Anime or Movie to me

Ofcourse, I'll let you know via a direct message once i finish updating my list completely. If you don't mind romcoms i suggest you check out horimiya, an absolute gem of a show yet quite brilliantly underrated.

I think its understandable for this show since its supposed to be a gag show, and they rarely have continuity or development. I felt Kings Avatar was relatively straight forward with just the usual comedy but its been a while since I've watched it

Wait! You mean this is like one punch man?
Wow that means I've been going about it in the wrong way then. Lmao.

Well yeah king's Avatar even though being slightly random, it does deliver a decent storyline. But so far I'd say I was most satisfied with link click for being most committed to a plot.

Yeah same genre like one punch man, more like Saiki K if you’ve ever watched it, and if you haven’t then it’s just japanese Daily Lige of the Immortal King, it’s not really intended to follow a storyline, more to just get some laughs out of people but i can understand your confusion because at times they do try to follow a storyline.

And yeah Link Click is in my opinion the greatest chinese made anime, and hands down one of the best ever. I agree that the tone shifts in Kings Avatar could be jarring at times but that could also be chalked up to translation issues

I know what you mean.
It's already hard enough as it is to find well translated material, such as ln or manga in itself. On top of that to criticise an anime or Donghua made from such material would be kind of pretentious of me. Haha XD

I think I'm using this feature right

One answer to this may be that Daily Life and Kings Avatar are based on Web novels whereas Link Click is an anime (donghua) original

I can speak more on kings avatar since I've read the novel after watching it and they definitely pick and choose a lot when it comes to what to animate and how to pace it and i think that's what adds to the jankiness of the story pacing, that said reading it I do think they did the best they could with 12 episode seasons.

Oh I see so it's not exactly following the ln order. That explains why some parts felt disconnected or randomly awkward to the story. I guess they don't do that out of spiteful intent, they must have some logical reason to animate it in that way.

Link click is episodic which is why episodes don't have a continuation. (Idk about the other ones cause I haven't watched them, but some seem to be slice of life. It's normal for slice of life to be episodic.)

Not every donghua is episodic tho

Hmmm imo link click actually handled the plot well, their story seemed to have a steady flow. But the other two were really all over the place.
I recently found out that "daily life of immortal King" was actually a gag show with a slice of life tag. So that made sense.
Don't know about "king's Avatar" though maybe I'll re-watch it at some point to confirm my thoughts.

'But not every Donghua is episodic', I'll keep that in mind when I watch them in the future. Thanks.

i like to watch cultivation donghuas, and it is very common that they kind of fast forward through some parts and it makes the flow/pacing feel off/awkward. part of it is probably me getting lost in the translation/sub, but i also think - after having watched maybe a dozen or so donghua - that it's just a stable of these shows

it's like you spend a few episodes on a storyline and then jump months or years or DECADES into the future to get to the next storyline. since "cultivators" live for so long, skipping a few years isn't important i guess...? idk

[idk if that's what you're talking about...but...whatever]
