I'm actually surprised its not rated higher than 9.00 on MAL It's just such a shame that this season's so great but the barriers for it are too much. 77 episodes to get to this season and visually, particularly with season 1, that's the biggest barrier of all along with the extreme censorship there. AND, I remember the score was rising from an 8.4 to an 8.6 after 4 episodes but then got the worst hit on a COVID-19 delay than any other series that year. Getting a delay of over a year. So while it helped with the production side of things to prepare the final touches for season 3 and get on season 4 too at the time, the hype was dead for a long period of time as it was stuck for a year in purgatory and was trying to rebuild some amount of hype from such a long break. It got there by near the end but this would have been even higher if that length of a delay didn't happen. This season's great and my 2nd favorite anime of the year, but yeah the barriers and lack of hype due to those reasons definitely didn't help with this situation sadly. And ofc while the art and animation did improve considerably compared to the first 2 seasons, it still has the censorship issues and doesn't look close to the manga (more of a testament to how great the manga looks), so score can be affected there too. This score seems about right with my expectations, maybe slightly higher than I thought originally. |
| i have to agree, i was pretty sure i was going to go wiht a 9 because the ones i have rated at 10 are pieces of art to me, but upon further thought, thats exactly what this season was. never have i seen an anime, or show for that matter, have a massive widescale battle span an entire season, usually would be covered in 2 episodes of the average tv show. the strategy and the art were just great, all the characters as well. good shit cant wait for S4 |
