I think it's a fun idea or is it too light hearted to go into a full story focusing on his Yakuza past?

I'd watch it but honestly I think the reason most people love it in the first place is how it takes a yakuza & puts him in normal situations & seeing how it plays out. A prequel just wouldn't have the same spark to it that the original has

Yess!! I love the jokes, but I expected it to form a storyline and have some seriousness progress into it later one, similar to Kaguya sama. I paused reading at around volume 4/5 so I’m not sure if a storyline progresses later on though.

I remember that in one of the issues of the manga we see Tatsu's past for a page or two but briefly. It wasn't even serious either, he was basically the same as now, a househusband but to his boss. If that's how he was threw out his whole Yakuza life then I don't think it's needed, but then again, if that wasn't his only contribution to the Yakuza and something that actually involves it? I would love to see that!
