I recently started to read the grand blue manga after finishing the season 1 of the anime couple of times years ago. Grand blue is one of my favourite anime ever and I started reading the manga cause I don’t see a season 2 happening anytime soon. However, when I started reading from chapter 1 again I feel like the manga is not as funny as the anime. Is there a certain way I need to read the manga or is there like a drop in phase. This is the first time I’m reading manga in my life. I’ve never read a manga before this. I just know it’s goes from back to front and the panels go from right to left.

I wouldn't say that your are doing it wrong. I also read the manga because i really like Grand Blue and i understand what you are saying but regarding the way to read it... I guess try to stick with the image of the anime and transfer it to the manga. I know this isn't really a good explanation but it helped me back when i started to read. The more you read the better you can imagine certain scenes, fights, even emotions.

And i really recommend the Manga it's pretty fun to read and made me laugh out loud couple of times as well.

I’d reccomend reading from chapter 1, and by the time you catch up to the anime you’ll get used to it. That’s what I did and I liked it.

Give voice to the characters and use your imagination (perferably close to the anime)
By the 10th or so chapters things will sorta click

if you don’t find it funny just read where the anime left off. the adaptation was great so you won’t miss that much.

Yuppp that’s why I started from 1 again. Cause the times I’m laughing is when I’m able to remember the scene from the anime itself. But I’ll definitely do that.

Alright I’ll Definitely do that. I guess it is like a drop in phase or I’m focusing too much on words. Thanks! :)

Well I have been reading the manga from 2017 which is before the anime so I didn't have any problem but you'll get used to it and in my opinion it's better than the anime.

I read the manga from the beginning not long after watching the anime. While the anime is 95% faithful to the manga, you should definitely start from the beginning. I'd even say it's a bonus as you'll get to relive the stuff from the anime. This is my favourite comedy manga of all time and one of the rare cases where it's not overrated, just rated. I hope you enjoy OP. If you decide to join the monthly chapter discussions, you'll definitely see me around.

First time reading manga then it will take time to get used to the black and white format but later on it gets better and the anime stops at chapter 21 so plenty of time getting used to it but after 21 it gets funny as hell when you know the characters well
