I am happy about Violet reuniting with Gilbert and this movie deserves a solid 10/10. But there are some things to be point out which is the sad part which no one talks. Ik Gilbert raised violet he gave a name to her taught her everything like reading etc and atlast falls in love. But on the other side of the story there is Hodgins who saw Violet as his daughter. He raised her to the point where she understands daily life it was coz of him she was able to live a good life understand each other and writing letters also she made some good friends and lastly it was coz of him and others she understands the meaning of "I love you". It was done when Gilbert was self absorbed in his own world ik he was feeling guilty but c'mon he should have gone to his country. The ending should have been like they are in there country living a happy life and Hodgins seeing Violet as his daughter. Staying in the island will lead to nothing but only make certain people happy on the other hand a father like person will miss his daughter everyday.
If the author thought about a happy ending, it should have been a proper ending not like that it's only portraying Violet's happiness and not the others.

This was Violet’s coming of age story. She learned human emotions and become more of a person. In real life most kids eventually leave home. She has come of age and is leaving home. Parents miss their kids but, as is similar to the real world, Hodgins can visit her. He knows where they live and there’s transportation to their residence. Sure Hodgins will miss Violet, but he can always got and see her. It seems to me like a normal, given their pasts, decision. Violet is an adult now and wants to leave home to be with the person she loves.I can’t imagine that Hodgins and Violet will never see each other again. I think it will just take time to adjust to the difference.

I also found it to be unsatisfying and unnecessary , this anime was about letting go of the past and moving on to be a better person , but this movie just starts with ," hey remember me I'm violet evergarden and I'm depressed again. " And then Gilbert is like ," hey remember the part where I friggin died and the entire anime revolved around my confirmed death , well screw that I'm alive again and I'm depressed and I don't deserve Violet . " Then they reunite and are like ," hey let's leave everything behind and stay happily ever after in this lighthouse thing . " . This movie was giving me those Disney happy ending vibes , and that's not a good thing .

The ending was ruined since Violet called him Major and not Gilbert. That bothers me so much because the entire development from the 1st season goes down the drain. Also, when he told her to raise her head, it feels as if he is giving her an order to do so, all so because she called him Major. Bad writing on that end. The movie is decent, but the ending is just horrible.

I can agree that they should have gone back. Not really for Hodgins as Bunzy said but all of her friends and people she helped were back home. I felt like that was a more of a reason for her going back.
TBH when Gilbert and Violet reunited I wasn't happy because I knew she was effectively throwing her friends and those her care about her away for someone who was an ass at the end before he came around.
