In a general sense, you're correct. However, i can think of at least one notable exception: Shiki. It features two Special episodes labeled "20.5" and "21.5", which are actually canon and meant to be watched concurrently with the series as they advance the story. You can even see the previews for those "specials" after the end credits of Eps. 20 and 21, respectively. Iirc, they had to be released later on the BD/DVDs as OVAs because they depicted some especially disturbing violent content that was probably too heavy to air on broadcast TV. |
