I enjoyed this anime. There is a live action adaptation, is it as good?

As live action anime adaptations go, this one was really good. I guess it helps that it isn't set in some fantastical world where hairstyles and costumes would make it more cringe live action.

I thought the actors did well and the story is a good retelling of the first season.

It does suffer from the "move her hair back out of her face and she's suddenly 5 times more pretty" syndrome that most Hollywood films have.
I know sawako looks a little brighter once she gets some friends in the manga/anime but she's still her. In the live action they definately spruced her up once the movie gets going.

The live action is pretty good and solid, as well in the manga and anime.

Agreed! The live action was one of the first i watched, and i really enjoyed it.
