If they were going to make a second season, why did they make an anime original ending and change all the character interactions? One major character is missing in the anime that sets up the next arc.

It's been less than 3 months since S1 ended so this was planned for a while. Unlike other anime that create an anime original ending because they don't know if a S2 will ever be greenlit.

they showed that missing character in the trailer. So just wait and see because its not aired before judged it. But being worried is fine too

When the anime began production there wasn't enough material to adapt. The author proposed an arc that the anime went with, but when writing the manga made some adjustments. The studio have said that they will account for all the previous changes in the new season so hopefully they follow through with that

they had planned for the anime original ending from the start. they didn't know if this will do good enough for a season 2. well it did good enough, so they will most likely just ignore everything past episode 8/9 and continue from there.

If you read the manga you would understand that right after the ending of the debut arc there was a period of low intensity where they were just learning more about the shadow house, but that was a new arc and the season was coming to the close, so instead of starting an arc they couldn't finish they just made something up to kill 2 episodes. I think it wasn't a bad idea since if they tried to go to the next arc they would have had to compress all that into 2 episodes which would have pissed me off.

You have to understand. Out of all anime out there, 90% never got a S2. Mostly due to it become unpopular, low manga and bluray sales. So they had to play it save. Otherwise making a story with unfinished plot without a continuation is a waste of money and time

They had teaser in 2020 where manga had only 70 chapters + probably started to work on it even before teaser.
So at time of production start there were most likely not much more than this 55 episodes thus they needed some filler to end the season which wouldn't spoil plot and will be okay in case there will be no season 2.
I think last 2 episodes of s1 are actually doing good job in it.

The Ending wasn't an ending, it was meant to be a stopping point so that audiences didn't get bothered by the lack of a stopping point. the ending itself was mostly inconsequential, and can be edited around

There was a stopping point. The end of the debut and drinking the coffee and the reveal of grandfather.

I agree! When I saw the anime original ending I thought they were just gonna stop it there. I wasn't expecting them to make a 2nd season.

No. This is not a stopping point when the chances of having no second season are uncertain. What's the point of ending a series with a major twist that triggers a sequel that will never happen?

Episode 13 gets back on the manga so then you can have a stopping point.

Have anyone in this thread actually read the manga? The content of the final episodes was not original, it was out of order so we could stop at the end of season 1 with a feeling of closure. It's easy to fix this and a lot of other animes have done something similar, I don't know why all the ruckus about this..maybe you guys are expecting the worst since it's the same studio from the YNN S2 disaster, but I think we can still have a good adaptation.

I, for one, am just damn glad they didn't just leave it at this ending. Getting more than one season is such a luxury sometimes that I have developed a bad habit over time to not try to be fully invested anymore when anime come out, because so often there is never a bloody sequel coming in the first place. Promotional material for the original, they often just treat it like and not as an actual separate medium.

It's why in general I give almost any Anime that's an Original (not based on anything) a definite try, because people are likely much more passionate to create it.

What's being overblown? Just asking a simple question.

They made changes to the season 1 anime presumably on the assumption that there won't be a season 2 which I understand from their perspective (quality of the changes aside). But for them to announce a season 2 only 2 months after season 1 ended? This means this was decided long ago since anime productions need to be scheduled 2 years in advance. So the changes made don't make sense.

They didn't even have to remove the character in Season 1, would've given them a path at least.

which means they dont expect it to be popular. Get it even the author surprised by the announcement. Even the sales shot up 3x the sales. So the sequel is unexpected even for manga readers.

And they make it changes because the author wants to end it on conclusive note. Thats one of the reason and after debut arc havent end points because it starts a new arc and ending at the middle is not good for them and rushing through it to the good end point chapter 80-81 is a no good too because, they dont include the vital character so its gonna pissed the fans too. So anime original arc is a safe decision for now, and the author said themselves that they can fix it. And if you watch the trailer you know what it is

This is Cloverworks, after the train wreck that was Yakusoku no Neverland S2 I don't trust them to ever successfully make a second season again. I'm probably not even going to watch this, the manga is far too precious for me to risk them ruining the story.
The 2002 Tokyo Mew Mew adaptation is not as great as you remember it being.

That's not a satisfying stopping point though. it's an ending that makes people wanna see what happens next right away, so if it ends there, people would get mad more than anything else. The coffee is a cliffhanger

Mostly the rawness of subject matter. Yes, they are teens with very immature personalities and they heck up a lot of dumb stuff in that show. But at least for once, they showed a bloody realistic view on a situation like that. I am too old for the romantic standard love triangles and can't enjoy that anymore. Non of my relationships were rosy back when I was in my teen years, like the ones in those. Honestly, relationships are never rosy.

Would I still give an 8 now though? I am not so sure. Maybe more like a 7.

EDIT: also can we have more Anime with a little MORE than just hand holding?! We don't have to have straight up hentai all the time, but I would love it if we could take a middle ground every now and then XD I know we are talking about Japan, the most prude country in existence right now, but still.

If I can get through an ep because of the op and Ed, it has to be max 3/10. Can’t put it lower. Both op and Ed are good.

From what I remember, the main reason is that they had to add episodes because there were too few. They also tried convincing us that it was fine by saying something like: "We'll make seasons 1 & 2 connected if we ever work on another one". So, yes, they knew it was a possibility from the beginning. It's a shame they had to ruin it, because it was going well until the 10th ep or so.
the producers seems surprised by the popularity of manga because of boost and streaming. So there decision being not good is understandable.

The fans and author alike are surprised too. Because its given that Shadows house is niche and getting sequel is low, thats why they make anime original but with authors blessing

Cloverspoilyourworks at it changing shit and spoiling stuff for no reason just because they thought season 2 wasnt gonna be a thing. Literally they already spoiled the secret of Ram and Shirley for no good reason so now when they return it's not even gonna be as impactful. Not to mention that now Edward knows that there are people working with Kate even though that never occired in the manga and we had to see Kate work to find allies. Fuck Cloverworks. Just freaking make the series as it is. If season 2 never becomes a thing people will still read the manga

its spoiled because you spoiled so its not a difference. Because you just give it away, and they know what they doing they have the original giving guidance and how the structure of the story goes.

Not to mention that now Edward knows that there are people working with Kate even though that never occired in the manga and we had to see Kate work to find allies
Edward knows the allies early as the debut. And he is suspecting everyone jist not confirmed. Then the final episode confirmed it. As for the manga I think chapter 50 onwards where the anime ends adapt it. so your rambling does not make sense and read once more. They revealed nothing of sort that ruins the story.

Also at time of when they started to make season 2 manga wasn't done that far so there was nothing to really make as the end of season 1 - at best you can start a new (half-written at this time) arc and end the season there.
Which is bad for obvious reasons. Sure, during making etc manga expanded but I think series composition and stuff like this are made in the early stages of production.
