LOL I didn't read into anything about HSL before watching it and I too was thinking it was a Slice of Life or something. Man was I SOOOOOOOOO wrong. Still a good show tho.

One of the edgiest shows I have ever seen. Second probably only to Mahou Shoujo Site.

Honestly, I'd say it was an SOL, since most of the series past the first 3 episodes is just Satou talking with either Shio or her best friend that I forgot the name of (Shouko, I think?) an reiterating stuff we've already seen and heard in every other episode. Not that I think all SOLs are boring (A Place Further Than The Universe is top tier), but this one certainly was IMO

But anyway, I had the same experience as you with School-Live!
Went in expecting another "meh" SOL series and got the most terrifying horror anime ever made (and also the saddest anime ever, IMO). Sadly HSL is nowhere near School-Live! in any regard, IMO

I figured it would be a dark anime but not THAT dark! It was just way too much. The fact that the protagonist was a pedophile herself was just was too sick for me to handle.

nonetheless it was still a good series.
