1) The Master they're referring to is our Wang Ling.
2) Same problem here dude, I too can't understand some scenes because of the Mismatch of Subtitles so I rewatched those and tried my best to Enjoy it.
3) The Last OP moments felt really great to me TBH. And I'm waiting for S2 too..

Its on netflix now better translation there and wang ling well the series its called inmortal king so maybe some type of god reincarnated through all time ? Hopefully 2nd season come with more answers

wang ling is not the master if he is then he is the reincrnation of sun wukong/the monkey king

The Netflix translation wasn't very good either to be honest, but I assume that her ancestor in the Sun clan rules the underworld.
