Based on the anime, do you think the "living dolls" as slaves to the shadows family?

Yes. But Kate starts to illustrate what Living Dolls mean to the house in the first episode. As the anime goes on, you see why cleaning is such an important part of the dolls job.

I'm caught up with the anime too, but I'm wondering if the living dolls are slaves instead of people who are there to serve as their shadow masters faces (kind of like a maid to a royal family in the victorian era kinda thing)

I'm not sure I've only seen the first two episodes and it just made me feel uncomfortable that all the living dolls got to eat was bread like I don't know how human they are but Emilico would be malnourished if she was human

I get what you mean as slaves. They are more servants, and unlike slaves they are valuable or precious to their shadow. I know there's more to it to be revealed, but I'm an anime only.

Speaking of which, I know one review from ANN stated that like the shadows & servants secret reminded her of like feudalism
