for such a long running series, with extremely good English translations why is this never talked about?

I remember seeing this in an ad back in the 2010s in some library but even though its been promoted quite a bit compared to some other seinen series in the west why is it that this has never picked up in popularity?

is there some cult following? I came here because im surprised that this series got a Live action adaptation in the making, and im confused due to its low popularity.

I’m wondering the same thing honestly... apparently the live action has been in the works for a long time (since 2009) and it’s unclear if it will happen?
And I wish there was a cult following, seems to be just a few enjoyers here and there. I found a fan doing English translations for the newer volumes on tumblr, but other than that it seems like there is no way to read English versions anymore. :(

I always get extremely confused when a series extremely long running with lots of media published about them and merch but somehow have next to no audience to speak off.
I also see the case with the series “violinist of hamlin”

Also to a lesser extent things like “red” or “iron wok jan” also i remember that manga about dogs, which had literally like 100 volumes
