I was so into this series purely because I was excited to see Masa become a changed man. But by the end, he still is completely socially awkward, didn’t grow at all as a ronin, didn’t fix his issues with his brother, and was effectively made a side character. I honestly really disliked Yaichi and his arc. Extremely disappointed that the series didn’t base itself around bettering Masa.

The manga continues after the anime. I’m pretty sure the studio just ran out of budget and didn’t continue for a second season. I personally think the arc was really satisfying, I loved the characters and the setting, I felt the ending was great as well. We did see the characters grow through the season, idk why you think they didn’t, however as I said the manga continues after season 1, so the character development may feel lackluster in the anime to some ppl I guess.
