They say it is something that appears and can be taken in photos. Is it something physical? Does it represent some real life concept metaphorically?

In simple words, they are those fuzzy circles that appears in photos that normally are particles or tiny objects that are out of focus. In tamayura they give them a meaning, explaining that they appear when a captured moment is precious and a makes you feel warm.

The word comes from "tama" (circle) and "yura", than means "wavering", so together they mean "wavering circles".

Even when the show romanticizes this concept and it is a pretty way of loking at it, they normally appear when the camera lens is dirty lol.

To add on, Japanese Wikipedia has an article for this named "tamayura genshou"

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%8E%89%E9%9F%BF%E7%8F%BE%E8%B1%A1

Its English equivalent is Backscatter (photography)
