Some thoughts.

-Kyouko's parents seem less formal than Beat herself.

-Kyouko seems ridiculously rich, but her parents had to stream her performance on a small tablet instead of a big screen TV.

-I like Beat a lot (second favorite after Shiori), but I think this character moment came too soon. She was only introduced a few episodes ago, and she's already resolved the tension between living two different lives. I would have liked it to be something she came to realize over time, or something that at least had a few episodes devoted to it.

-The insert song this week is probably my least favorite of the first batch of songs. It's just too weirdly specific (literally about buying presents for someone's birthday) to be used as a general pop song. I hope in the future there is a Beat-centric song that leans into her personality more.

-Not sure what was gained by having Beat lose the Battle Stage.

I think the point of her losing is that she was able to give herself permission to not be perfect for her parents. Her parents see her as a straight-laced girl who basically doesn't fail at anything, and this episode not only allowed her to show her other side to them, but also helped her understand that her parents are okay with her NOT being perfect. If she had won, it would have only been about them accepting her other side as long as she still still performed up to standard.

I've seen this message in both anime and in real life, where parents give permission to do the thing the child wants, but they must give it up if they aren't successful and follow a path that relies on academic knowledge rather than artistic talent. This episode helps to normalize the idea that one doesn't have to be successful in all of their activities in order to pursue them, and this lesson is applicable to kids/teens, parents, and even adults with dreams of their own.

We don't have to be the best to still pursue our dreams and have a good time!
