Don't really wanna do a full-on write up for everything, but this season's been very enjoyable so far. Lot of new stuff, less 2nd seasons to stuff i don't really care about.
In no particular order:
Pog Shows: The cream of the crop
Godzilla - It's Godzilla, its kaiju fights, and its enjoyable and fun characters and plot. Very solid.
Oddtaxi - Very interesting, atmospheric, character driven story with a ton of interweaving threads that could make for a super interesting story; or it could crash and burn completely. But hey, that's the nature of originals. But so far it has been a very unique experience.
SSSS.Dynazenon - Gridman was one of my favorite anime in recent times, and my absolute favorite thing Trigger has put out, and this seems to be matching in quality. The directing and voice acting/dialogue again being standout in their focus on realism, the action scenes being super high quality and stylized, and the characters so far being super charming and interesting in a (mostly) subtle way. It's obviously trying not to be Gridman, and is going in a so far very different direction that I'm super down for.
Super Cub - I tend to not like CGDCT type anime. So me saying I really liked Super Cub is saying something. It has the same sort of vibes as Yuru Camp, in that minimal dialogue, minimal stereotypically "cutesy" stuff, except it goes even harder, with incredibly subdued character designs and backgrounds. It's pure iyashikei, pure realism distilled into a thinly veiled Honda ad.
To You, the Immortal - Ok kinda off topic but I fucking despise how so many licensers are just so fucking bad at translating titles. To your Eternity is such an awful name, holy shit. Anyways, that tangent aside, this show is really good. I really don't want to say much, but it is such a unique premise, and the presentation and direction has been top notch.
Pretty Good Shows: Stuff I will most likely continue and would recommend.
Vivy - Fun concept with a pretty cool MC. I've enjoyed it so far, will probably keep up, especially since they've finished with alot of the exposition dump stuff, and since the whole "story spanning 100 years" sounds really cool as a storytelling device and I'm interested in seeing how thing will pan out.
Mars Red - Very theatrical anime about Taisho Era vampires. Literally the prime example of style over substance, but holy fuck the style. It is going so hard for the theatre, stageplay vibe, and it really does succeed. The plot and characters ain't the best, but they're fleshed out just enough to carry the aesthetic and tone.
Shadow's House - One of those sorta creepy cute SoL things with darker plot elements lurking in the background. It's very slow, but I do like some slow stuff if the direction and art is good. Mildly hesitant about it though because it is animated by Cloverworks, and as with Wonder Egg last season, their production might just implode again.
Fairy Ranmaru - Watching this was a religious experience.
Ok real talk this is heavily aping off of the visuals of stuff like Utena and Madoka, and while inferior to both, injects a heavy dose of homoeroticism and flamboyant Gay Energy that transforms it into something that demands to be seen.
The Meh: Stuff that I may or may not continue, but for now am very ambivalent about.
Jouran: The Princess of Snow and Blood - Honestly can't help but compare this to Mars Red, since it's also an anime set in the Taisho era featuring a taskforce fighting against supernatural creatures. But this is just not as engaging? It is stylish and interestingly directed a points, but it doesn't have a consistent, omnipresent aesthetic like Mars Red had. The plot tries to go for this episodic thriller series that attempts to be emotional but fails because the side characters just aren't developed at all, and the main cast feels so samey and boring, since they for the most part have the same personality of aloof, too cool to care badasses. It just all feels so tryhard, I guess.
Blue Reflection Ray - I have no idea how this got made. It's an anime based off of a fairly obscure, mediocre, low budget JRPG that somehow is getting an entire franchise now. It's fine, I guess? The biggest issue is that it just looks kinda cheap. They try to hide the cheapness behind style, and while the direction and music is pretty good, it's hard not to notice the not great character models. Storywise, if you don't enjoy magical girl anime and/or yuribait class S shenanigans, you probably won't enjoy this. I'll stick with it for a couple more episodes though.
Battle Athletess Daiundoukai ReSTART! - So for some reason I decided to binge the original 90's Battle Athletess anime, and it was a mostly pretty fun time. But that's a post for another time. This... this ain't it. Like animation is meh, direction is meh, the plot just seems so rushed. Like the OG started out as a classic underdog story, with the MC being a screwup borderline dropout. Whereas here, the MC is already a world renowned athlete, bumrushing through her last match to be the representative of Earth, and already going to the top athlete's school in the galaxy. In the OG, that took like 10 episodes. It's both extremely rushed, yet also does so little. The 1st episode in the original does its best to establish the personalities, characters, and goals of it's main cast, while starting in media res in a fast paced race that lasts the entire episode. The 1st episode of this, we barely get to know know 2 characters, and that's it, while barely any sports happen. Like I know I keep comparing it to the original, but the pacing is just so off, and the direction and art feels so flat in comparison.
Woops I accidentally wrote too much. But still, it kind of a pog season.
