From what I've heard about this, it's pretty explicitly gay. Protagonist is intersex (transmasc) and there are five love interests, 4 of them being men.

It's not literally gay, but the protagonist's intersexuality is obviously being used as a loophole for "safe" BL content here. Think of it as Gender Bender, where the protagonist sometimes turns into a girl to give viewers yuri content. But if this is very important to you, then his gender identity and "main" biological sex is completely male, so this is at least deliberately homoerotic.

Eh a little bit worried about JC Staff but going over the director's work some people did give some praises for the animation/art of Angels Of Death which he also worked on? Maybe some of the same team will carry over? Regardless still hopeful one of the more interesting upcoming titles this year based solely on premise so hopefully the PV and anime can deliver. Darling in the Frankxx was visually pretty good so getting some of the guys from there is promising though I wonder if this is their first time doing character designs?

Yes, this is the first time Tsutomu Hashizume works as a character designer of a series. He only worked on Darling in the Frankxx as key of animator for episode 14. I really doubt you will see people that worked on that series coming to work on this one.

Oh no what I meant was seeing staff from Angels of Death come over not Frankxx.

I remember Angel's of Death looking good at the very least(stylistically speaking)

Was hoping for a more high profile studio, but ya do what you gotta

I really hope it works because manga's aeshetitcs are really good. It's not also not that common for historical manga to be adapted. I'm just afraid that a lot of people will be turned off just because Richard's intersex and his love interests. Needless to say, it's all part of his character growth and climb to get on the throne.

*After seeing J.C. Staff*
Me:πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€....

This one is really Mappa-ish so I was really hoping MAPPA did it but they already have a lot piled up on their shoulders...

I hope JC staff doesn't disappoint us.

I'm pretty sure the main love interest is one of the men. So it's basically ranma 1/2: gay edition.

This work is not a harem, but rather an all-male cast for a female audience.

My mention of yuri was just an example, as Gender Bender is often a "safe" way to give yuri content to the audience. Otherwise, this is a typical shoujo, where the male bishonen MC also acts as a female self-insert.

MAPPA loves gay content and experimentation, but such blatant shoujo is not their style.

I dropped the manga after 14 chapters (not huge into historical plots) , but maybe I'll consider watching the anime. I do like gender-bender based plots.
