I would have liked he killed Namerikawa but i guess it's a better end for him since he's gonna die after humiliation.
I was sure that Ushijima would die but not in this way..

If that last chapter truly was the end of Ushijima, I would say it’s sort of fitting. He survived through all the hells thrown at him by those who dominated him in terms of manpower and finance. In the end he died from a blade held by an absolute wimp.
I like Ushijima as a character even if he’s a complete scum, so I hope he survived, but there are a few factors that make me confident that he died.

1. When one of the girls offered to call an ambulance, he refused. If he thought that there was any chance of survival, he would’ve taken it. I think he knew that it was over.
2. Secondly (or more like reason 1.1), there’s a scene in the last arc where Ushijma says to Shishiya (the jacked boxer who worked under Namerikawa) that even though people like Namerikawa and Shishiya disgust him, he came back to Shinjuku because he likes the place. I think he went outside to get a good look at the city he so loved. His gaze into the sky was kind of sad, honestly.
3. Thirdly, he called the girl’s debt even as he left. Seeing how much she was dreading the collection prior to the last scene, I think it’s fair to say that it wasn’t supposed to be the last payment.
4. He buys oden for the homeless dude who was complaining to Ushijima earlier. Last act of kindness?

If he did somehow survive with all that blood coming out, I have a feeling that the middle schooler that Namerikawa took in (the one that was crying while talking to Namerikawa at the end) is going to turn Ushijima into Swiss cheese. Just didn’t look like a white collar, corporate yakuza to me. Would’ve gone straight for the revenge.
