Ok here we go now . . . Why was Atsushi like a completely different character in this movie? Compared to the previous 3 seasons, he wasn't this overly cowardly and whiney character. I think they really over-exaggerated this personality trait of his. Personally to me, it wasn't even that noticeable in the series. Dead Apple was suppose to take place after the events of season 2, right? I took that into consideration before watching this movie, but even after he really seemed like a completely different character. Like what happened to the character who would rush into anything to save anymore (ex: first episode of the first season where he uses his body to contain the "bomb" to try to save the lives of everyone in the office)?
Here are just a few examples of this throughout the movie though: Atsushi yelling Kyouka-chan literally every 5 seconds hurt my ears. When Kyouka and Atsushi where running from their powers, Atsushi was literally saying "Dazai-san this, Dazai-san that," like he couldn't do anything without his guidance. Yes, you can say he relied on Dazai a lot throughout the series, but to a certain extent. My memory is a little fuzzy, but more than anything, didn't Atsushi idolize Dazai and didn't want to burden him? If so, why would he be saying all of this "Dazai-san" nonsense throughout the movie?
Kyouka seemed to be a completely different character as well. Her and Atsushi's brother and sister relationship was totally gone. I don't know whether she did this out of love for Atsushi, but she literally just left him so she could help Akutagawa. To me when I was watching it, it didn't really seem like it was out of love, more like he would hold back the 2, so she decided to let him stay. It was like she reverted back to her old, cold self like in the first season. It literally doesn't make any sense.
Speaking of things not making sense, what the hell was even the plot and events happening during the movie? With all the random information being thrown at your face during the first 45 minutes of the show, by the climax I was literally lost. Some things I sort of understood was that the main villain's motives were to experience a good death and get Atsushi's power? How am I suppose to enjoy a movie when I can't even understand why the villain is doing this? Also that time when Chuuya was fighting a dragon with Dazai in it . . . uh just what the hell was that? Wasn't the entire country put into the fog, so nobody could use their powers? I mean you can say that he got his power back by defeating it, but I can't understand how he would beat that. Also why was Dazai a dragon and how did he come back to life after getting stabbed? I really doubt a single pill can fill up a stab wound, but it's a world with crazy powers anything can happen, right?
And what was up with that ending? It was like Atsushi and Kyouka were bipolar as hell. Why was Atsushi and Kyouka suddenly back to their normal selves after fighting whatever that thing was at the end?
All of these factors made the movie a horrible watch for me and really turned me off. Being honest, it was a waste of one and a half hours. I also don't understand how this show has such a high rating. I could barely make it through the first 30 minutes, forcing myself to get through Atsushi's annoying ass complaining. Unless you're a really hardcore Bungou Stray Dogs fan, I don't understand how you could like this movie. I'm a pretty big fan of the series too, but they really butchered this movie. Since I am I fan of the series, I'll just point out some of the pros this movie had after just completely trashing on it lol.
Well for starters, the animation was amazing as always. It's one of the things I really enjoyed about the series most, other than the characters obviously though. The fight at the end was sick. The opening and ending were amazing as always as well. And Kyouka's smile at the end was literally so cute I'd do anything to protect it. But other than that, the movie was shit.
