The official website for the AOP (Anime "Katte ni" Ouen Project) idol group announced on Monday that the group will end activities on March 31, 2021.

Nikkei Entertainment! and AT-X established AOP in 2012. Their goal was to form an idol group that would promote anime in Japan and overseas, with members who were genuinely passionate about anime. A rotating cast of idols have worked toward this goal in numerous ways—including performing anime theme music, releasing albums and touring, making television and radio appearances, and voicing characters in anime.

The AOP staff stated that they feel the group has been successful in promoting anime over the past eight years, and they are thankful for the support they've received. AOP will host its final event in March before disbanding.

Current Lineup
Yuuna Asahi
Hinaki Kudou (Tomodachi ga Zombie ni Nattara Dou Suru live-action drama)
Rin Kojima
Yukina Tsutsumi (Munou na Nana)
Non Harusaki (Hulaing Babies)
Yuuki Hirose (High Score Girl)
Seena Hoshiki (Cinderella Girls Gekijou: Extra Stage)

AOP performed the Osomatsu-san 3rd Season opening theme "nice to NEET you!" Monday's announcement also revealed that they will perform the opening theme for the anime's second cours.

The group has been involved in the Osamatsu-san (Mr. Osomatsu) anime series since it began, performing openings for the first and second seasons, as well as the special episode 3.5 bundled with the anime's first home video release.

AOP's other theme song performances include the Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes (Holmes of Kyoto) opening, the Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni. (In Another World With My Smartphone) opening, and the third Diamond no Ace (Ace of Diamond) ending theme—the latter in a collaborative effort as part of the Diamond no Ace Ouen Project.

One of the few idol groups I enjoy listening to. Pretty bummed about them disbanding, but good luck to them and their future endeavors if they decide to pursue any.

I remember when I first watched Osomatsu-san and I downloaded their albums after hearing the theme. AOP has, and always will, a special place in my heart. The girls have worked very hard, they deserve to move on to more endeavors. But I will miss AOP--they will leave a small hole in my heart that not many other idol groups can even attempt to fill. Thank you, AOP.
