----------------------------------------
I ended up taking a very large break from finishing this chapter and writing this post, but I would still like to write my thoughts. My first thought when information about Ryouhei came to light was about how dark their plan would be, if it would be a hostage play. Well, after making it explicitly clear that any cheating goes, it was revealed, nonchalantly, that it is exactly what is going on! Hey, take a look through these binoculars, it'll pique your interest. Lololol. Kono shot himself in the foot here and even if he does try and call them out on this, the hostage ain’t his boy.

The more meaningful thought I had was about Gin’s morality. My friend had asked me if Gin would do some gnarly stuff for money and power and my inclination was to say he wouldn’t do so directly. Recently speaking, although potentially unimportant as a diversion, he didn’t use violence or threats to get Okabe on his side when it appeared it may be necessary to win him over, and he refused to drug the horses; only taking them down to average health. Now, assuming consensual, Ryouhei is simply playing the part of a hostage, Gin didn’t choose to literally take one of Kono’s family hostage. Perhaps I am not thinking straight and misremembering past events, but one thing that is pretty ensured is that Gin works indirectly with harmful and malicious people! He was on the side of Kamui! Where Morita said no more, Gin embraced crushing evil. I certainly think that he would aid some more truly malicious people.

But regardless of that fact, he does appear to have moral boundaries. From the beginning he was adamant about having a moral partner who would not kill. I think he also suggested, alongside Yasuda’s emotional response, that he wants to triumph over those evil corporate heads by gaining enough power. Possibly the line that stood out most however, one that really left a mark on me, was when Gin described helping others as ‘playing favorites’ back in chapter 89. In his world you must hurt people if you want to help others, it is a game of climbing for power and using that power to play favorites..
