I haven't read the manga of the series (pls don't make spoiler) but I thought this was like, u know, another Yuri-bait (like Hibike). I mean in the series -spoilers ahead, if you haven't watched the series don't go further this point- there are scenes like Yumeri & Maki holding hands and acting like they were in a relationship, even almost kissing, making it looks like an actual Yuri series. But never nothing concrete. Well, the thing basically is, the tagging wasn't back then when I watched the series, when it was airing, and it just surprised me, I think.
There are plenty of other series with this kinda same development, like Koisuru Asteroid, K-ON, 22/7; but I would never clasify them as Yuri, not even Shoujo ai. It's just bait and we all know that, but maybe here I'm wrong. If anyone knows if the manga is actually a "Shoujo ai" please let me know without spoiling, or if you simply want to opine, feel free to.

Ok I did some research and author made some other manga with yuri tag but none of them even showed a kiss between characters.I came to know that the author makes only god awfully slow romance which never reaches anywhere.... But ya the romance aspect is there so I am good with it.

eh, I think it's deserving of the shoujo-ai tag for sure. Wouldn't really consider it baiting tbh, given how Maki and Yumeri are literally a couple, and it's quite obvious Maina sees Eripiyo in a romantic sense (and most likely vice-versa as well).

MAL kinda adds tags as it goes sometimes. Like Darling in the Franxx I remember wasn't even tagged as romance in the beginning despite it well being one.

It portrays a lesbian couple and have another girl running after Maina .Which seems to have mutual feelings towards Eripiyo. And several other members of their group also seems to be lesbians

There are no laws in Japan dictating that the lesbians have to kiss otherwise its not a Yuri . Yuri is a term they use when they portrays lesbian females in anime or manga. Some Yuri's are stronger then others

Shoujo Ai is a incorrect term which they dont even use in Japan. Yuri is the right term. And Oshi ga Budoukan Ittekuretara Shinu is definitely a Yuri

Yup it is indeed 100% yuri and deserves the tag but I just wanted to warn them(person who made this thread) if they are here for kiss and such.I loved it and it was one of my favourite anime in that season. I really like slow burn yuri romance.

Also in manga Maina is a confirmed lesbian.

Someone, please count the number of times Maina tried to clarify his feelings for Eri. This is Yuri's softness, Shoujo-ai.

But, still ... this anime has a slight impact to the end of the story.

To begin with, what you described is the usual platonic homoeroticism for Japanese culture. That alone doesn't make the series yuri yet. Second, there is a long debate about the artificiality of the shoujo ai tage, but using it as a loophole for shows that are not yuri is clear abuse. It's just an attempt to get around the rules when you can't follow them.

Comparing this with K-ON or 22/7 is generally ridiculous, since with this logic yuri is generally any moe-ish interaction of female characters at all. However, who am I telling this, if now any interaction of female characters immediately gets the label "yuri subtext"?

This franchise was never "100% yuri" because that's the maximum yuri bait with satire about idol fandom. This is completely deliberate considering the author's career and the sale of the series' merch at yuri festivals, but the franchise itself has always been more "for yuri fans" than yuri itself.

Having a lesbian MC is a yuri element, not any shoujo ai. This term was completely artificial and only exists now because yuri fans need a loophole for a ship-bait show.

Really wish MAL would cut the shoujo ai tag, but this series definitely has some yuri in it.

Yuri fans don't use shoujo ai at all. "Ship-bait" shows are just considered yuri-bait or teasing.
