According to the description this is an alternative setting of Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai...
Is it true? Or does someone just assume that?

It takes place in the same town as Anohana and Kokosake

Same city (chichibu), same goldy character designer Masayoshi tanaka, and same mascott (the pink bunny)

“Now I have neither happiness nor unhappiness.

Everything passes.

That is the one and only thing that I have thought resembled a truth in the society of human beings where I have dwelled up to now as in a burning hell.

Everything passes.”

interesting to compare this to anohana - other than 'oh yea there's a past version of person of interest' - they come off as pretty damn different

I agree, besides the city and the amazing graphics just the main movie ideia that is someone "returning" from death/past is similar to anohana, besides that there's nothing similar to anohana.

Oh, how interesting. I didn't realize.

I see the similarities now, after having read this. But I didn't think of Anohana once while watching this movie.

There may be some similarities but there's no crossover between the two at all.

I didn't know about the same town thing, but that both anime use a version of a person at a different time as a spirit to personify all the characters' regrets, and that every protagonist needed to get over what this spirit meant to them in order to move on makes them very thematically similar. In both anime, all of the main protagonists are sort of stuck in an emotional limbo until they could "exorcise" those feelings, and the characters find each other again in the process.

They're practically the same movies. It's no surprised that they were made by the same creative team.
