I dont know but watching this anime made me uncomfortable and just this anime felt painfully unrealistic. Specialy the last episode with Izumi having double minded statements. Anyone else felt that way ?

Yeah i agree. I mean yeah if you love someone you are also sexually attracted to them and also guys can get hard from almost any girl so if he loves kazusa then he is also sexually attracted to her. Also izumi didnt really need to say he was sexually attracted to Niina because its obvious that all guys are sexually attracted to hot girls. its common sense.

Well yeah Izumi did say that he was so embarresed thinking of Kazsusa in a sexual way just like how Kazsusa felt too. A New stage they are both facing on new physical features they are developing and new feelings.
I think all childhood friends who known since toddlers would understand that situation and knowing its scary and new when it happens.

Parts tell me in middle school when they were in the lost years phase on finding stuff on themselves till (if lucky cause sometimes not really) they go back to each other again.

I can't help thinking on the porn star when look at it closely looks more like a cute type one like Kazsusa (hey can't help on Beastars on the bunny porn to the wolf he got was to help on if those are the type he likes lol).

I really want to see a IZUMI perspective special episode on how he is like. sure his reaction be like Kazsusa in male version and also how he got that porn in the first place and why listen to that train song. yes yes i just like that guy. he's just relatable.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! You're nuts if you're calling this underrated gem "unrealistic". It is one of the best anime in the genre of coming-of-age romance.

So this happens in our daily lifes too according too you. A BOY IS ATTRACTED TO THE BODY OF A GIRL THAT HE DOES NOT LOVE AND IS NOT ATTRACTED TO THE BODY OF THE GIRL HE LOVES. AND BOTH GIRLS JUST ACCEPT IT. HAHA NICE JOKE!
THAT SOUNDS LIKE A HENTAI PLOT TBH

Agreeed!! Also I think lots are forgetting the point why trying to show is it’s normal to be sexually attractive to other people when your in a romantic relationship with someone. It happens. I mean don’t we all had that Situation ourselves?

Also same for the other couple where one Amagi has experience with other girls before going out with Rika. Sounds like he had casual hookups but never was in love with them Until met rika. Starting to feel what love feels like for the first time. So for this couple it shows just Because one has more experience and the other one just now getting started doesn’t change Anything when are together.

So liked on the later episodes to finale on the two couples on the difference.

Glad I'm not the only one who felt like something was off during the entire series. I mean, I loved the premise and I should have enjoyed the show a lot, but for some odd reason I wasn't really able to relate to any of the characters and for the most part I just felt uneasy.

Separating sexual desire from love is fine, and having that explored in a romance series is pretty cool. The thing is that the show tried to sell us that idea without showing that Izumi had romantic feelings for Kazusa. Until the very end he said that he saw her as family more than anything else and it kinda felt like he was forcing himself to catch feelings so they wouldn't have to break up their friendship.

But then again, what exactly defines romantic love? I came to this show looking for a slice of life that would help me turn my brain off but left thinking about the nature of love and human relationships. Maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it as much. It'd be interesting to rewatch it in a year or two to see if my opinions on it change

funny, when i saw it, i didn't think of that way at all when i was watching it. Also Kazsusa agreed just like IZUMI on the family part not just him. He had so much going on with his mind just like her. They were both scared of change on this new feeling. Also one part came to my mind is how in the world they are going to tell their parents since they live next door to each other and they are sooooo close and afraid if it will tear them apart if something happened. Man, from that they are going to set new rules on what to do since those two are now an item. VERY STRICT.

I never had a childhood friend in love with really, but surely ones who used to have must of felt the same way just like those two and don't know what to do.

So in my opinion it wasn't forced at all. I mean it showed them on the epilogue that they were together for almost a year now and they are holding hands (to them if felt like they were together for a long time). Hard to say in the future since still teens, but looks like they want to do many different journeys together from high school sweethearts to Getting Married to having a family like their own. hey still young like never know.

If aren't together anymore, they both know romantic attraction is the journey that they rather go for.

Oh yeah in case of wanting to see it second time, i just heard the live action drama series for this show is going to happen.

This is the most realistic anime I've seen next to Watamote. I praise this series for its realism.

I feel like this anime was very realistic. The average anime is rather unrealistic, and perhaps being conditioned to watching unrealistic romance makes a more realistic romance seem out of place. I felt incredibly uncomfortable while watching this; imo that's what makes it realistic. Life is full of the awkward situations that when you take part in them or even just observe them create an overwhleming sense of something - this exact feeling varies between people, but the general idea is constant - words that seem accurate to me are cringeworthy, heartache, lingering anxiety? Althogether, it makes you feel uncomfortable, and any show, book, art, etc. that can accurately capture that feeling is the closest any form of expression can get to realism. Humans exist to categorize, to know, to be sure, to make things to be clear cut. This will sound cliche, but there arent clear cut definitions for/boundaries between love, sex, romance, eroticism, and when a show brings the grey areas into the spotlight, the inablity to be completely sure of the feelings involved is unnerving. Leaving the human desire for classification and definitive closure unfulfilled is what creates the uncomfortable feeling, and that is as close to realistic as feelings manifest in creation can be.

Why do people say realistic?
I don't remember any girl ever in high school being obsessed with sex. Even talking about it.
Also students jumping on teachers.

Why is the kid using a disc for a porno? this is a 2019 anime. his laptop probably doesn't even have a blu ray/dvd drive. everything is on porn hub...

People must be crazy to think this show is realistic. The dialogue is fucking stupid and is far from realism. It very much feels like a shoujo with it's usual tropes. You have a club where all the girls are reading about erotic literature? You got a girl who is in love with a teacher, a girl in love with her childhood friend, a femcel that turned lesbian which fell in love with her friend, and the stupid love triangle drama. This sure sounds similar to another shoujo called cardcaptor cough*.

You got the most unrealistic and awkward convos. Kazusa constantly talking about breasts while she's in the bath? Hahaha, yep that's relatable. Also how stupid is the god damn ending where they decided to take over the school? If you want realism, watch Tsuki ga Kirei or Hakubo. Not this obaka written crap.

The characters lack common sense. It made me frustrated at their actions. Its not realistic as some people claim. But it's anime after all, I don't actively seek realism from it either. Overall, the show was alright.

Just finished this yesterday, and I feel like some people missed the point? I think the show was really all about children being pressured by media, society, and their peers into growing up too fast. All the members of the lit club were inspired by books to go out and have sex, Izumi didn't know how to deal with his emotions, Niina was obviously traumatized by being a victim of molestation, Kazusa didn't know the difference between sexual and romantic attraction, etc. While the ending fell really flat for me, in the end everyone learns that they should be honest with their feelings and not succumb to those external pressures. I think the show's scenarios were really realistic in a lot of ways, even if the dialog was verbose at times.
