So is there a connection to King's Game in this? Like the similarities in both name and concept's feel somewhat connected.

Like you either Play or Die essentially.

i mean, yeah it's like the game you can't get out of easily. but there are no commands. it's like fights. kill or be killed.

Nah, They are different.

Darwins's game system is basically Augmented reality (AR) game with free PK. Characters are forced to play it but they have freedom on how to play it.

To compare it specifically to King's Game based on that is a stretch. There are a ton of japanese media that involve a "survival game" where you either play or die. Exmaple: As The Gods Will.
Shoot first, think never.

same. To others who are curious, the problem was they tried to combine two novels into one series which just didn't work. The problem with anime's that focus on a whole classroom (Average 20 Students) is that they never have enough time to give all the characters their own development over 13 episodes so when something does happen to a student, you don't really feel any emotion for them because you didn't get to know them. Here they doubled that plus with one class being told in flashback you knew they were going to die anyway so you had no attachment to these characters at all.

It's a shame because this could've been amazing otherwise especially if you gave each story it's own series. Heck, if it was popular enough you could've given a 3rd series to the antagonist girl's story to find out why she became this evil.
