| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- Volume 4, Chapter 5: This story wrapped itself up a bit too easily. The novel itself was over 300 pages, but it felt like the story wanted to be much larger. This is actually a situation where a two part story might have been better. What disappointed me the most is that some of the most interesting things about this novel received very little attention. We learned that the archbishop was married to a nonhuman and was Sharon's father. That would have been an extremely interesting story to hear. It would also be nice to finally hear from a character inside the church about the issues of corruption and reform. I think it would have been better if Sharon's mother was a character instead of a plot point. That would have been a really cool thing. It would show a possible future for Col and Myuri, but also show the costs of it. Eve had some interesting moments in this chapter. It seems somewhat out of character that she would get corned like she did, but it the story did need to end. It's fascinating to see here tragic side appear from time to time. She's gained an unbelievable amount of wealth, but she's also a lonely old woman. I think it would be great to see her interact with Lawrence and Holo. This was a good volume, and I like the direction it is going. My big wish moving forward is to get more perspective from the church's standpoint. It's been a running theme in this series that good and evil isn't black and white, but it would still be nice to give the church more of a face. |
