fans of Azur Lane began harassing animator Nakaya Onsen for his comments on a livestream where he said he didn't particularly like the show and spun it into why its recent episodes have been lower quality when the production has essentially gone through crunch

welp they got bad production schedule so they do not have enough time to AD the rough still frames then

AD = animation directors
Berserk 2016 Anime Director Says Industry Has Shortage of Animation Directors
Animation directors typically supervise the key frames drawn by animators, revising the drawings and giving feedback when necessary. Because animation directors are usually entrusted with the task of maintaining consistency in the animation, they are highly sought after among anime studios.

Not his fault he was assigned to a show where its only redeemable quality is the fact that it has cute girls in it. I wouldn't have liked working on this show either if I was in his position :P

It’s as if people have opinions, how fascinating.

I don’t understand these fans, since when is it a given that the animators must be a fan of the shows that they work on? It’s not like they decide to work on whatever they want, the Production Committees more often than not forces projects to them and this just seems like another such case. So what’s wrong with sharing that opinion? Granted I’m not aware of what exactly the animators said or in what context/tone but this outrage is simply outrageous in my opinion. On the flip side, the fans are free to share their opinions and criticisms too but they’ve clearly crossed the line now.

Besides, this is Bibury Animation Studio’s first ever tv anime project and yet the animation quality has been really good for the most bit. Personally, I thought the Sakuga Animation from the last episode was wonderful even. This is just uncalled for.

It’s like what happened with Darling in the Franxx from last year all over again, horrid stuff really. My condolences to the animator and studio.

They should turn this into two weeks per episode instead of weekly episode. I don't ask for ufotable tier but consistent quality art throughout anime should be considered. How can the anime industry sell their BDs well if the anime doesn't meet up with expectations? I understand the hardships and low wage that many animators face, but I don't want this turn into justifying bad quality anime.

Cant really blame him lol, the story is hot garbage, I wouldn't be motivated to work on it either. Honestly the director in bibury studios deserve the most blame for directing this badly paced, hilarious plot of an anime, he still hasn't learnt from his mistakes after directing fruits of girisaia, enterprise is so goddamn broken and has zero personality she makes actual mary sues look good in comparison, there's more questions each episode than answers. I wonder how he will fix this mess in just 4 episodes, oh yeah and there's also the ironblood faction who just keeps popping in and out of the show, what a convoluted mess, its really hard to enjoy it

For the people who didn't get the whole idea of this story:

The problem was that he admitted that he wasn't doing a good job with Episode 8 since it was a side-job. Because of that he was doing sloppy work with it and mentioned that "no one will watch it after a week or so."

He also said the same thing for the Fate Grand Order animation mentioning that it was boring but it was his main work so he put the effort into it.

Things got blown up that even the higher-ups have to apologise to the people about his remark:

The minority of Azur Lane fans are paranoid and blame the whole animation quality because of other theories. Mind you, not everyone is blaming the 'whole' series for the lack of animation quality. Just Episode 8 since he admitted it.

I see, good thing I didn't immediately jump into "poor animator" narrative. The response of Azur Lane fans on the tweet are correct and they were aimed at episode 8. In OP tweets, he tried to make it as whole azur lane fans blaming it on all episodes. As always, you need to check both sides before making conclusion. You may don't like the anime but you don't have to insult the work.
