Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Wraith Arc
| After reading it the second time in the same weak, I came to an understanding that Homura posses that power to manipulate time as a result of the contract made with kyubey. Her second power, the power of memory manipulation and the power to pierce through wraiths, was given as a momento by Madoka before they parted. Homura became powerless since her Shield was stolen by Giant Wraith, her momento stolen by Wraith Madoka, who is also a conscience of Homura. But I have some doubts. Why was the bow of memory manipulation granted to Homura in first place? I understand the power to pierce through wraiths makes sense, but why memory manipulation? Also it seems the power to remember Madoka, was granted to Homura by herself, completing the incomplete magic somehow. This all is a bit confusing to me. Please help. |

| I just finished reading it, and from what I understood the power of memory manipulation is the "true miracle" that was referenced by Madoka when she rewrote the universe and sent Homura back. It's not just manipulating others' memories, but also what makes Homura keep those memories of the prior timelines and Madoka herself. It's noted that both Homura and Madoka deeply desired to not forget each other and this bond was strong enough to withstand the remaking of the universe. Homura didn't become powerless when her shield was taken away, but when her ribbon was (and not completely powerless, just greatly weakened). She discarded the shield herself, which contained the core of her time manipulation powers along with magical energy, which were absorbed by the main wraith/witch and passed down to the regular wraiths (which is why one of the Rogue Wraiths could stop time). It's only when her ribbon is taken away that Homura begins to doubt her memories and bond with Madoka. As for why Homura wields a bow, it's probably a writer's nod towards Madoka's weapon, or became her weapon because Madoka was so important to her. |
