I find it interesting that Mao chooses to use a steel knife. The theme is salmon fish and required some creativity to make the food as great as it can be.

A lot of thrilling moments this episode.

Wooa! A knife that's made of ice, this show cannot get more crazier. But I got to give it to Lei for enduring that frostbite, so he can fulfill his duty as a chef. All that passion makes me to not like him less, but I still want him to lose against Mao though. However, I Would've liked to taste his sashimi that was dipped in sesame oil, the thing must've taste scrumptious judging by the expressions of the old men.

On Mao's side, the presentation of his dish in the first challenge was pretty fire, I don't know about these rolls though. I had the same expression as everyone there, but maybe it's in the taste, who knows!

Lei En out here using seven knives while I use the same, unsharpened butcher knife that surprisingly still cuts well for everything from meat to grapes and cutting sandwiches in half.

Honestly, I don't like raw fish, barely ate it while I was in Japan so I'm automatically on Mao's side, not because he's the MC but because I like spring rolls more than raw fish.

Leon went as far as risking his hand to win using that knife, but Meili could see that at least a part of his old self is still there. He still shows respect to the lives of the animals he uses on his cooking. Mao did well as expected, and managed to secure a tie, but let's see what he came up with to revive the flavor which was supposedly lost forever.

Well...it's NOT surprising that even Mao has a hand in the underworld too. That should raise awareness for the returning Leon.

AND OH COMES THE AGGRESSIVE EXAGGERATION of explosive umami that this series ever tries to being close in spirit with the original.

With the first round forfeited as a draw, an extra round ensues and Leon is forced to draw his seventh knife from the underworld: a knife made out of ice. And of course, there's no going back with both Leon and Mao utilizing their underworld weapons, but it's a risky gamble of underhanded techniques.

All dishes impress, but it's Mao's spring roll that will change the perspective of the competition, long after the original ingredients' delicious lifespan have long passed, next episode.

The lack of sound effects again, and also where did my beautiful tasting reactions go.
These new ones really disappoint. The original basically sent them to heaven.

Ice knife in this adaptation still seems as ridiculous as the original, but I kinda missed some animation at certain parts like Mao cutting the seabream in half was just a stillframe here.
