How much symbolism is in Phantom Requiem for the Phantom, and how can said symbolism be applied to the ending?

I noticed that the sun rising at the start of the series could symbolize Reiji and Ein entering the underworld, and the sun setting at the end could symbolically represent the pair leaving a world of crime. Are there other symbolic motifs in the series that could be used to interpret the anime's ending in a manner previously undiscussed?

Well, there's symbolism all throughout the series. From the beginning to the ending. Even the opening and ending themes have symbolism relating to the overall arcs of the story.

In opening 1 at somewhere at the end of the song. You can see Reiji being pulled by strings showing he is nothing but a puppet to inferno.

I believe the first ending had Ein naked besides weapons just basically saying she is no different than a weapon, a tool to inferno.

and I believe the lyrics of the second ending once translated relate more to the characters overall feelings.

"It's not that I've lost my heart
I just worry that remembering will become frightening
The warmth that I'd almost forgotten
Was an illusion that slipped through my hands as I tried to grasp it
Even though I feel as though I'm about to be crushed
I want to see a new tomorrow

Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent

I'm becoming transparent...

I pretended to feel nothing
And somehow tried to become accustomed to this world
But on the nights when I stifled my breath and cried
Something made a sound, and I felt like I was being broken
Now I feel, rather than think,
That that's fine; I just want to live tomorrow, too

Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent

I'm becoming an illusion...

Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent
Transparent transparent

I'm becoming transparent..."

and there's examples of the anime foreshadowing and giving some type of symbolizing towards the ending in the middle of the series if I remember right. (Sorry it's been awhile since I've last seen the series.)

But the show always was trying to get the the viewer to be more thoughtful than a normal anime in the same genre.

Hell, I would call that anime and I guess the visual novel that it is based off of more mature than most dark anime nowadays.

With the writing, tone and themes. I just believe the second half of the anime kinda screws up a lot of things.
"Even if there isn't a God or meaning behind life. That doesn't mean you can't create your own meaning and make the best out of life."
