I'm very torn on this one. Obviously it looks way better than some of the other 3DCG output from japan.
And while most of this looked fine, there are some things that don't sit right with me. And I can't really put my finger on what it is exactly that I don't like. I always thought if Japan wants to do 3DCG they should still make sure it looks like anime. This though, looks like a Dreamworks movie. You could probably cut some scenes into a "How to Train your Dragon" trailer and I wouldn't notice.

Japanese animation, or "anime," shouldn't *have* to look like anything. Truncating the medium into a certain visual aesthetic just limits the potential, and there's a reason this looks better than most CG anime films that attempt to more faithfully translate those designs to 3D. Some models simply don't work very well with the added dimension. You need to keep that in mind when creating a 3DCG work. Something like Promare gets a pass since all of the character animation is traditional anyway.
