As a warning, this will kind of cover all leading up to Char's Counterattack.
So expect potential spoilers for 0079, Zeta, and CCA.

I really want to bring up the idea that Char is mentally unstable. Looking at him as a person, he uses different names throughout his years as a pilot. He goes by Char, he goes by many different names and tends to contradict himself in several different circumstances. Judging based on his relationship with the Earth Federation, the AEUG, and Amuro, I can only assume that these conflicting ideas of peace and war are brought about by different personalities that take the form of "Char" and "Quattro". During CCA, he seems to be almost completely different toward all of the above-mentioned factions. Just a random rambling thought, but what do you guys think?

I see where you are coming from, but I think he just suffers from bad writing 🤷

Oh yeah, for sure. To the point that it seems he has multiple personalities.

His goal is the same across all appearances: liberate spacenoids and further push his fathers teachings of Newtypes by moving humanity fully into space. His methods of making his dreams fully realized just change, I think CCA is the most mature and necessary way for him to go about it, given how the result of Zeta didn't do anything he wanted it to. I can understand somebody not liking how he changed his modes of operation but I just think it makes sense.

I've also seen people say that his transition is a result of Zeta's ending regarding Kamille but I feel like it wouldn't have changed anything if that part were slightly changed

I think he's always about not being able to let go and being driven by dead people.
And his channel to emotion has always been war.
In Zeta, Amuro's girlfriend sees through him. She's not the voice of reason but she's right.
Even Hamen said similar things in the finale.
In ZZ, His sister spells it out in the second last episode, about how dangerous Char is, even though he wants the same thing as Amuro.
This guy is changed when he became Char in the very first show. What is said about him being gentle never applied in real time and all his gentleness was reserved to Lala and his sister but they are not around

Also he's always a prince looking down on ppl.
The few people who get his respect are some of the best newtypes.
Notice how he wants to be stopped by Amuro
but absolutely disgusted by the crowd who actually admire him in the train scene,
even though he chooses to do what he do.

I can see why those things don't stick to some viewers. The movie is way too fast and the shows can be tedious
