Tbh, I kinda have similar suspicions as Phantom. Something seems fishy about their latest operation in Shanghai.

Not sure how much I can stand Song. She can be so airheaded sometimes. At least Kei and Phantom are on better terms now than when they first met. Rhino is pretty amusing to watch when she's teasing others. Phantom also had a bit much to drink lul

If i am not mistaken that flight carrier is one of the newest in the US fleet and a new class which is plaqued with problems because instead of relying on proven technology literary everything on it is new so it's full of things which still need to be worked out.
Tho it's not as bad is the Freedom class and Independence Class which are a disaster and than there is the Zumwalt class which is a national embarrassment not only does it have a lot of problems it's insanely expensive to operate.

Anyway more F18 this episode and it seems she will be with us in the next few episodes.

It should also be mentioned that Miho is way to good for the main tho probably every woman is to good for him.

Well, with the harem trope of dense protagonist necessarily comes the trope of the girl who just will not come out and tell the protagonist she likes him. I have to wonder if Kei is playing dumb because he thinks outright rejecting her would hurt her more than pretending he doesn't know her feelings.

At the same time, he has kind of treated her like dirt. She traveled with him, she is nearly his only family left, she is doing things like cooking and cleaning for her, and he just leaves her in the dark about everything he is doing. Sure he may not want to worry her, but he was kind of a dick to her the last time he refused to tell her anything about why he isn't spending more time with her.

While showing Kei's improving bond with Gripen these dreams also show how close Kei is un understanding her as a person and as a xI. That was quite the plan that Phantom tried to stop Kei and Gripen from joining the op. Guess even in this world America is still determined to be the global superpower. Minghua's reaction to Kei's words was hillarious. The heart to heart was nice to see though. Hmm to think i will see the US navy's newest CV here lol. Rhino's intro sure ended up putting Phantom and Eagle on guard. The party by the crew sure was nice to see and it was amusing seeing Phantom get triggered by Rhino. Im curious to see how Kei and the squadron will fare in the op. Somehow Willy's briefing while informative was also chilling to a degree.

The mystery goes a little deeper with Gripen appearing in Kei dreams.

Phantom realize the true agenda of the US. That american scientist looks like he's already partly crazy from his obsession with the Zai. The american soldiers they're working with look like they are good people - I'm surprised they don't have hate for the Anima like the jap soldiers showed for Gripen in a previous episode.

Looks like there will be a major battle. Can't wait for next week!!!!! :)

Ok. Kei says that Mingwa is the most important person to him, and yet he's also saying almost the same thing to Gripen, that like a cheating guy would do......Also for Phantom to push Kei onto on coming traffic for the sake of injuring him was a terrible analogy, cu'z it kinda look like she murdering him than injuring him.

But ya know Phantoms analysis about the US planning to reduce Japan'z anima seems to have merit since Wlly himself says that he wanna to study them Xi up close and personal to the point like he is having an orgasm of getting his hands on a Xi.

Dammit, Phantom, stop trying to turn this into another isekai anime, it's nice enough as it is...

Rhino is good at provoking Phantom. :D

Sharing a room, eh? Nice! ^_^

The plot is so tedious, I almost dozed off. But Kei x Gripen is gureto.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

lol. Kei deserve that slap. It was hilarious that it thought seem to be a confession but it wasn't haha. Dammit, Kei. Also him reacting that Gripen and him sharing the same room and reaction to Gripen undressing annoyed me.

Mad scientist guy's obsession at Xai seem like he'll get orgasm thinking of them. But I can't trust the US knowing their agenda including Rhino. Phantom is aware of this. Whenever she tells something it bothers me. Also Rhino tricking Phantom of drinking is amusing.

Feeling this kind of construction...

It would be good but 'Girly Air Force' could improve...

Minghua is developing in an adorable way; already a nice girl, becoming better.

Rhino is a nice girl too.

Well, as always the plan elaborated by theoricians / non-fighters will probably be a failure... I don't particularly expect a betrayal but more like a secret weapon used by Zai. However, considering how Rhino acts, she might - in my opinion - disobey an order to serve a better purpose (saving any Japanese anima ? ).

There is only one thing I wish they do not add : a huge cliffhanger coming from a big turnover (such as a betrayal) that gives hint for a continuation but which would not happen with only 1 episode left (if only it happens around the end of next episode).

Kei's dream remains curious, it seems like Zai itself or something warns him (please no "Zai is in fact from the good side, allied forces are the bad guys").

Ah and it irritates me so much when he felt so embarrassed to share his room with Gripen... dude you don't need to be married to enter a girl's private life.

The Xi do not aim to eliminate humanity...Let me guess. They want to BE human?

"Minghua, I'm going for a run!."
No response from Minghua...she already knows...and that is saddening on Minghua's part...

Damn Phantom trying to kill Kei! I mean she does mean well knowing that the operation will fail, but still! Geez. Phantom is that kind of character that I like for being dislikable. I mean the way she goes about saying things makes you hate her, but she does it so well that you like her...

"You are the most important person in the world to me." YES! But darn it, that scene just made Minghua so lovable...

"If you're that proud at beating me, then don't let something like this scare you." Oooooo....

Ok, I'm quoting this:

Rhino's a special anima. She seems to be the most human-like anima among them...Interesting...

The operation to take back Shanghai begins next episode. Time to see if these Brawlers can even compare to the anima.

It was chilling because, in a way, he's very similar to the Xi: a singular focus on the objective no matter what, or who, has to be sacrificed.

Speaking of the Xi, I'm getting Nasuverse vibes here. The setup seems to be that the Xi are, like the type moon of the nasuverse, a sort of "defense system of the sentient planet," that is meant to "cull humanity down to numbers where it's no longer a threat to the planet."

Also, Grippen's parting words in the Unphysical Layer are absolutely haunting:

"The goal of the Xai is not the elimination of humanity... a discrepancy of means and ends...the obstacle to those ends being, by chance, humanity. Kei, I will ensure you survive when all the pieces are in place. No matter how many times, dozens of times, hundreds of times..."

Now we're getting into time loops, and it's clear that Grippen (and probably the rest of the anima) know far more than they let on.

If Phantom worries about you. She mightl kill you. It amazes me she thought a bump from the truck would not kill Kei. xD

Those US soldiers in the boat seem like nice people. Sad, many of them would probably die in the next mission.

William's strategy is the reverse of what someone would usually do. You'd send in the Anima and Brawlers first to achieve air superiority, and only then would you send in your airwing from CVN-78; Good, trained pilots take years of training to develop and retain. Japan learned that the hard way in World War II. So yes there is something very wrong, because William is viewing (and apparently commanding) the whole thing as a mathematical efficiency equation rather than from what's militarily and humanly prudent.

Yes indeed. Though it is fortunate in that Kei is unlikely to get to that point because he has his friends and his squad mates that will keep him from taking too many risks. Giving the significance of this op though im sure it will be a challenge for him though.

The idea that the Xi could be some kind of defence system though sure is an interesting angle. And yea Gripen's words in the layer were as you say. Feels like there will be an expansion into both the Xi and the anima soon.

Indeed. The fact that the states sent a scientist rather than a military officer to take command suggests that they really aren't serious about winning despite his answer to Phantom's query.

How many episodes are we scheduled for with this?

Feels like both this and Kotobuki Hikoutai are wrapping up far too early (particularly since both are getting into the meat of their narratives now, rather than, say, four episodes ago).

Kei's dreams where he speaks with Gripen, every time I felt it more mysterious, but Gripen mentions interesting information that could have relevance in the following episodes.
Kei still does not know how to tell Minghua that he will go on a mission to Shanghai to defeat the Xi.
Phantom is more and more intense, she almost makes Kei get killed by "truck-kun" and her reason was only to hurt him so that he does not participate in the mission. Phantom reveals the true intention of this mission, which is that the Brawlers acquire live data from the Japanese Animas and thus can fight on a par with the Xi, but despite this revelation Kei does not panic and decides to participate anyway.
Kei finally tells everything to Minghua, but before he tells her that she is the most important person for him and the girl gets very excited, but Kei does not say the words that she wanted to hear and Kei gets a big slap for being a insensitive inept. In the end is Minghua who senses that Kei is doing dangerous things and that now he will go to a dangerous mission, but in the end she understands him and wishes him success in this new mission.
Eagle is like a little girl, she is so annoying.
The Animas and Kei arrive at their new base, an aircraft carrier of the United States, where they are received by the friendly and mysterious Rhino, although Phantom does not accept her at first and with Eagle at first she clarifies that she is stronger than Rhino and she gives the reason to her and thus Rhino earns her trust easily.
The plan to attack Shanghai seems well planned, but I have a feeling that something unforeseen will change the course of this mission.
Rhino organizes a welcome party for the Animas and they spend a good time with the soldiers, although Phantom does not seem very sociable and Rhino tries to integrate her to the party, but in her attempt she treats Phantom as "veteran" (for Phantom it was as if Rhino said she was an old lady) and finally Phantom join the party.
The part of the cabin made me laugh a lot, Kei is very aware of how feminine Gripen is, but as she is not human she is not ashamed and ends up undressing in front of Kei.
I love the relationship between Gripen and Kei, both are concerned about the welfare of each and both swear to fight together to return home safely and so we are left with a mission that can change the situation of humanity.

"I am your wings, your spear, tell me and I will go wherever I can to defeat your enemies". What Gripen said reminded me of what Raphtalia told Naofumi.
I think what Phantom said about the US plan makes sense. They should take care of their backs.

Actually, does anyone here read the light novel ? I was wondering if it covered enough chapters to make a potential season 2. I mean, the anime itself does work like a masterpiece (6.14/10 based on 4k+ users) so a second season would be a miracle lol. But it still caught my curiosity !

Anime will prolly end covering volume 3 as it looks now....

I'm not really reading the novels, but there's this google map i bookmarked covering volumes 1 thru 8..

It has most of the important locations in each volumes..

Also.. i guess it doesn't matter if the anime isn't popular outside Japan..

As long as its doing good in there.. subsequent seasons or OVAs are possible.. The novel already ended this month.. it would be a shame not to adapt the whole series..

Oh it feels like there is much more to cover in (probably not going to happen) additional seasons ! Hum, I've never read a light novel, it just does not attract me ; beside I can hardly find time for everything in my weekly schedule, with studies , anime, gaming, etc...

It seems there is a manga ongoing (according to MAL page) but it's recent and I couldn't find any chapter somewhere on the internet. I guess I'll have to wait to learn what happens next.

American always do shit. Japan try to take a lead. I just watch that nonsense with a nice laugh at my heart. Still this episode left me wandering. This Kei really get so obsessed with his purposes since the beginning. And his purposes must be the real premises to the show, with added the cutie air forces as a tastes. Yeah, the show slowly take its turn in nice way. Attached to the main story one, without any other sided story like before. So, this Shanghai mission really do a final battle to the show, and im glad with that final direction.

Yeah, its attempt make me increasing the point again, from miserable bad scores. Still, this show had a potential. And with only 2 episodes left, i dont really expect much. Let just enjoy the aerial action battle, and ofc the moeness with all of those cute girls!
