This Devilman OVA had no character or story development from what I could tell, just ultraviolent thing after ultraviolent thing. The death scene with Miki and her brother made me sick to my stomach and I turned it off. Does it get better? It's only like an hour long so I wonder if I should just finish it. What did you think of this anime? Is it worth staying until the end? Is everything wrapped up in a neat little bow and all of our questions are answered? |

Hey, i just finished it. Didn't like it nearly as much as the first 2 OVAs; you're really not missing out on much. There's barely any plot at all, it's just ultraviolent scenes, one after another. And, i mean, the other OVAs had the same problem, but at least those were entertaining, tense, and well-animated. The ending was also very abrupt and anti-climactic; so yeah, don't bother... |

Yeah all 3 OVA's were too rushed and had too much ultraviolence but yeah I definitely prefer the first two. The only thing that got my interest was apparently at the end Amon separates from Akira and the two FIGHT!? That *sounds* cool, but how was it? Also how was the final fight with Satan/Ryo in this version? I hated how their fight ended offscreen in Devilman Crybaby... |

@WhiteWolfKiba Yeah, the idea of Akira vs Amon is undeniably cool on paper, but the execution in this OVA was honestly not great. Everything in the fight, from the soundtrack to the choreography and animation, was very average and it felt especially bland coming off of the amazing (if somewhat dragged out) battle vs Silene in the previous OVA. Regarding Akira vs Ryo? Yeeeaah, that was actually the worst, most disappointing aspect of the OVA for me, in that they do not even fight...at all. Both Ryo in his Satan form and Psycho Jenny at his side look really cool and fittingly creepy, but sadly they only get a couple of minutes of screentime and lines in the whole thing 'cause the Amon conflict eats up so much of the runtime. At the very end, Akira comes face-to-face with Ryo on a deserted street, but he just passes him by without a word, and it just ends there. Remember that this OVA is mostly non-canon, so i guess they wanted to emphasize that this is an alternate "route" by having Akira go all pacifist? Anyway, the final Ryo battle in Crybaby wasn't perfect, but at least it's certainly more than what we got in this OVA, lol. Overall, i'd say it's not even close to the worst anime i've watched, but it really is very mediocre. Something i forgot to mention in my last reply is that the Miki family massacre is the last super-gory and upsetting scene in the OVA, so if you managed to stomach that part the first time, you should be fine to watch the rest of it if you're really that curious to see how the Amon battle goes down (skipping is also an option, of course). Anyway, sorry if my reply is too long-winded, lol. |

Yo, no need to apologize! No reply is too long-winded for me, lol. I appreciate your detailed answer. Yeah, I've heard the Miki murder scene is one of the hardest to watch but I personally never got there. There's so much awkward crap to sit through I doubt I'll ever watch this OVA completely. I remember one scene where Akira rips off a demon's breasts and EATS them!? I wanted to shut it off then. And then that one good demon girl was getting beaten up by a demon, like he was pulling her legs apart like a wishbone? Again I wanted to turn it off. Idk what it even was but the 3rd cringe thing made me shut it off. A friend also told me a little girl gets murdered in a scene and that's very disturbing? There's just so much to get through man, I don't wanna lol |

i mean; if you're a "completionist", might just as well? it's only 45 minutes, mostly gore and fighting, animation quality is pretty nice compared to devilman lady or the og devilman (which really isn't saying much, i guess, unless you've recently watched them), while watching; i had no idea this one was supposedly kinda-sorta meant to be connected to the first two OVAs? i just felt it was a shorter version of the story slapped together into 45 minutes, and i guess if associating it with the first two OVAs, i could see how things are related between them. having watched a great amount of anime and various non-animated horror movies myself, i wasn't very affected by the gore; but having watched the previous devilman series and violence jack, this movie was, ehhh... kinda same-ish. at least in my opinion. |
I like to comment Episodes as i Watch them. |
