 An wide open space in the woods near the Oldham River. The difficult to navigate woods clear up and make it easy for anyone traveling there during the night to stargaze. Status Effects: None After Victorique said she was ready to go, they'd head out through the forest a long while, with James letting her know the CS might attack them first now that they were moving close enough to be smelled. "These things have real sharp noses, so keep your guard up, they might choose to take the fight to us, assuming any of them are still around at least." However, that would turn out to not happen at all, as once they got to the clearing no CS were in sight, and no portal either. "Seems like they're gone. They might've returned to wherever they came through another portal. It's either that, or they're still around here some'ere in the forest where they could threaten the village. " James would investigate closely the tracks around the exact spot the portal had been reported at before. The amount leading out were consistent with the number he knew about, although it took a little while to neatly discern that. There were none leading in, but he couldn't be quite certain yet that this really meant they hadn't been portaled away. It seemed very unlikely this portal was set up by CS, and it obviously wasn't a natural phenomenon. It was probably done on purpose by people, so there was no guarantee that the remaining Jaggis hadn't gone back to wherever they came from through another portal. Otherwise, the Jaggis were just somewhere else in the forest and they hadn't searched thoroughly enough to make sure the forest near the village was clear of any Jaggis or portals. Most likely, he'd have to take a while following tracks he could find leading out from this portal, and deduce where the other Jaggis besides the group they killed had gone. This might take a while, but it could lead them to another portal or a former portal location, or just the Jaggis directly. Even if they found nothing or the trail broke off, or if James would find there was no clear trail to follow at all, they'd need to make certain the areas near the village were clear of CS or any set-up portals that could be used to portal CS in, and that it was somewhat safe for now. If they didn't get any easy answers, he'd need to investigate further, but Victorique wouldn't need to be there anymore once they made sure there was no more immediate danger to the village one way or another. |

Instead, she just kept an eye on their surroundings. Luckily enough, it turned out that there hadn't be a reason to do so, as there weren't any more Jaggi's around. The forest was quite peaceful and nice looking, in fact, with this clearing being at the pinnacle of that. Of course, Victorique would try to do some investigating of her own, after James was done, looking to see for any traces of what might have been/caused a portal. (Probably) not finding much, she'd ask about it. “Did you see this portal yourself, and if so, what did it look like?” Like James, she was going with the theory that there were people involved, and in her case she highly suspected this to have been some 'test' by Eden. After all, Eden had good enough reasons to try out new ways to transport calamity seeds, and the fact that they dropped those things all over the city was enough evidence of their creativity in doing so. |
James Health: ??? Stamina: ??? Status Effects: None James was busy checking out the area around the portal to see if there were still any trails. Victorique wanted to know if he saw the portal himself. Unfortunately, it hadn't been that easy. "Afraid I didn't get the chance, by the time a second person checked, it was already closed up. I can tell you that it was reported as being pretty large, more than enough for the big dinosaur to get through. Looks like we might be spending a bit of time tracking down those last Jaggis." James would spend a while looking around and following Jaggi footprint trails that led in new directions, but a few minutes in he got a call. This time, from the village. "Hello, it's James." "They finally found the village, but there were only four of them. We managed to take them out on our own. I've got to hand it to Astraea, whatever help they sent you was as good as they advertise." James wasn't about to disappoint the man by saying half his help froze, as it wasn't like he told anyone else they were SOULs. "Yeah, we managed to handle 'em. Anything else you need?" "Just for you to come back already and not throw yourself into the face of danger like that anymore." "I'm tougher than I look for my age, I'll be just fine and dandy. But I'll be back soon enough. "If you say so. Bye." Well, that was that, and there wasn't much left for them to do that Victorique needed to stay around for. "Well, that's all the work we need to do, the fighting's over. The village will be able to handle investigating where these Jaggis could've been brought in from, and searching for any evidence of additional portals having existed earlier, farther out from the village, if whoever did this used some kind of network or chain of portals. You don't have to do anything else here, but if you'd like, you can head back to the village for a brief rest or if you need something to eat, or if you just need a bit of healing. Thanks for all your help with killing these monsters, we couldn't have done it on our own." They'd done a pretty good job, and it wasn't like it was the fault of those other 3 SOULs that they'd frozen up. This certainly wasn't the first time James had asked Astraea for help with this village either. He had to say, that while the people they brought in as help varied quite a lot even in age, he couldn't deny they were good at handling the CS and keeping the village safe. Unless Victorique had any reason not to, they'd be heading out of the forest, leaving the area and going towards the village. |

There was no portal to investigate, there was no clear lead to follow, and there was nothing that could be considered 'evidence' of anything anywhere. She wasn't here to butcher some animals back into extinction, she was here to investigate something of interest, but that 'something of interest' turned out to have vanished altogether. Like the person whom made it, whom took the entire lore for it along with him into obscurity. It turned out the villagers had taken care of the remaining for Jaggi's themselves, and James gave her what amounted to a 'closing speech' of sorts shortly after that. Victorique sighed, and gave up. “I see, and you're welcome. Please keep me updated on any news on these portals, if possible. They're the reason I was interested in this mission to begin with.” It probably wouldn't be possible, but it was worth a shot. “I'll skip the village, I'd rather head straight back, once I know the way.” Victorique would leave the area, and once she was at a point from which she knew the way back, she'd also leave James after a short goodbye. |
