Slums
A hopeless place for the unfortunate...

The Slums are home to the poorest and most unfortunate of people.
Children who were abandoned since birth and didn't get the luxury of being
placed in an orphanage. Adults who may have been successful, but lost
everything in a single cruel strike from fate. And those inbetween, too young
to be a child, too old to be an adult, but no hope for the future regardless.

Many resort to crime such as thievery just for survival. Violence and murders
are not uncommon, but a daily occurrence. The men often drown their sorrows
and misery in alcohol. The women try to hook up with potential rich guys to
have a shot at a normal future once more while working in the night industry.
And the children are too innocent to even complain about their situation.
Situations such as those are common.

An abandoned hospital can be found not too far to the northwest.

Hannah finally, finally made her way to the Slums. She had long since lost count of the number of times that she had Frozen this day, nay, these few hours, alone. Her only relief was that her COMB allowed her to confirm that each individual Freeze lasted only a short time.

Well, nonetheless, she had finally made it to the Slums. She first had gone out of her way to change 10,000 of the Yoki on her COMB into physical units of money, which in itself had been far more tedious than she would've liked. Thankfully, the sporadic Freezing had never happened when she was in public areas, else she would've needed to do some considerable explaining after. Now, she drew near the location she had been told was the safehouse for her mission.

Recalling that secrecy was key in this quest, Hannah intentionally made a wrong turn into an alleyway. Once a ways into the alley, she'd activate Check Out the Competition, concealing herself from sight. That done, she'd move stealthily out of the alley again. From the presumably safety of her invisibility, Hannah glanced around the area briefly, checking to see if there were any signs of people clearly following her before herself proceeding towards her destination.

Once on the same block as the safehouse, she'd check again for followers or watchers. Should none be located, she'd find a convenient out-of-the-way location to deactivate her invisibility and then approach the door. She'd knock on the safehouse door, and if there was no answer she'd open the door and proceed inside. If someone answered the door, or if it was locked, she'd find some manner to deliver the password "honeycomb", be it a verbal message or some form of text-combination lock.

If any followers were visible, though, she'd continue on past the safehouse without stopping. Taking another lap around the surrounding area, Hannah would come back to the safehouse door after a several block jaunt that took her down sidestreets and alleys frequently. At this point, she'd once again search for followers, though she would knock and act as mentioned in the previous paragraph regardless of the presence or lack thereof of trackers.

It was still relatively early in the day, and the slums were now somewhat populated with activity. Individuals in various states of grunginess made their way through the dingy streets, making small talk on their way to their jobs. One individual was walking there today who looked quite out of place, with her perfectly-done auburn hair and her generally clean appearance. This individual, Hannah Lorken, elicited some stares from the residents of the Slums, although most only looked for a few seconds before dismissing her and moving on. Her business was none of theirs.

The girl made her way through a path of roads and alleyways. The girl would notice that each pathway seemed to become narrower and less populated as she continued onward. Graffiti covered the brick walls with illegible signatures and fonts, and in the distance some muffled music with a heavy bass and drum line could be heard. Shouts and exclamations would occasionally ring out, but they would die down quickly. The emotion behind the cries could not be determined without context.

At an intersection, the girl made a sharp turn left. Confirming that no one was present in the alley, she then disappeared from sight...

Hannah Lorken: Perception Check

Two voices could be heard. Both were male- one was younger and more excitable, the other more gruff, responding with single syllables or sentences.

"...still, da guy's lookin' to be recovered. Dat's great, ain't it?
"Meh."
"Dude, da guy who nearly died during dat invasion is healthy and all yer saying is 'meh'? Dere's a big crowd gathered round da noble place right now, ya know."
"Das great and all for da guy, but I'm worried more 'bout my next paycheck."

Said voices decreased in volume as they passed by. Outside of that, Hannah couldn't hear anything else. Based on her own perception, she was alone.

The girl reappeared and strode to a warehouse behind a padlocked gate- the padlock had been split open and lay on the ground with a few meters of iron chain. As she pushed the gate open she found surprising resistance- with a bit more force the gate reluctantly gave way with a groan.

The warehouse itself was a rather unassuming abandoned one. White paint coated the walls, but the coating was cracked in places which showed the cement behind it. At the top of the wall where it met the plastic-shingled roof were windows about 1 foot (.3 meters) tall with a simple white cross pattern. Some panes were bashed in, but the openings were too small to allow even halflings to enter through there. The door was a garage door. Locked.

The girl walked up to it and knocked on it. The rattling of the metal panels were uneasily loud in the silent atmosphere of the place. Nothing.

Hannah Lorken: Passive Perception Check

Hannah caught movement in the corner of her eye. Looking up at the far-right corner of the building, one of the shingles slowly moved back into positon- behind it, a CCTV camera.

The door opened with a loud CREEAAAAK...

Deafening silence.

Marlyn breathed out a cloud of smoke, watching it lazily drift away. Another job well done. In front of him, lay the bodies of several would-be murderers, the men he had been asked to take care of. Any other mugger who thought Marlyn would be an easy enough target would see that he was strong enough to take care of himself, and the muggers would be scared away by it.

Marlyn's phone rang, and Marlyn stifled his cigarette by stomping it into the ground, and picked up his phone. He expected it to be the chief of police, who had personally asked him for this job, but instead it was an unknown number. Curious, Marlyn answered it, then slowly put it up to his ear, "Yea, I'm him alright." He said, answering the person on the phone.

It took a couple of seconds, Marlyn's eyes slowly slid more open, "W-What?! No, you're lying!" He yelled into the microphone, but after a few seconds he shook his head, "I... I don't believe you. I'm going there now. I don't want to hear this bullshit from you!" He yelled, slamming the phone shut, then running out of the Slums, going to who knows where...
