Rinhain Forest
A serene, but tricky maze...

The dense Rinhain Forest is located near the outskirts of the city,
to the northeast of the Ivalia Plains and is inhabited by many creatures,
both known and unknown to man. Although the forest is relatively safe,
the deeper one goes in, the darker the leaves turn. It is easy to get lost
if one is not careful and even to this date, no one has ever been able to
create a full map, because it is a vast and expansive place.

The recent influx of SOUL traffic through the area has left a path leading
Deeper into the Forest

Carolus and Chu walked on the path into Rinhair forest, weapons in hand, the small squad of soldiers walking behind them. Bored, with no missions to do and not really seeing the prospects in speaking with the other souls meandering about, the pair had elected to go into the forest. Chu had offered to go along with Carolus upon seeing him preparing to head out, and the pair were politely chatting about their past. It was interesting to Chu the things this Swedish king had to say, and likewise to Carolus. They discussed the politics of the two different kingdoms they came from, the armies and tactics they used and troops they lead. At one point, even the men of the column behind them chimed in, speaking quite casually with the foriegn general and the Swedish king of different things. It was only once they reached the edge of the forest and marched inwards that the chatter died down, and all of the men became alert, watching for any sign of danger.

The group of men stumble upon a white albino rabbit sitting on top of a tree stump. It cowers for a moment, trying to decide between flight of freeze. Any sudden motion might trigger it's flight response and have it dash away in panic away from the group. For now it's just sitting on the tree stump, observing. However for some reason it's head is directly facing the group. It's hard to say, if it has noticed the men.

It was deadly quiet for a moment as all the men froze and stared at the rabbit, and the rabbit stared out at them. It had been, perhaps, surprising to all of them to see such a creature just sitting on a stump after not spotting anything on the way in. Carolus's grip on his sheathed sword tightened temporarily before he relaxed it, the surprise not as dangerous as he had expected. Chu, for his part, let his sword drop from the ready stance it had jumped into at the sight of the other leader relaxing, as did the rest of the men who were in the short column. "I have to admit, I hadn't expected a rabbit to just be hopping along this path. Remarked Carolus. At this Chu raised an eyebrow. "Really, though it surprised me, i'd say a rabbit is quite common in such a place. Though perhaps... He looked at the creature on the stump. "A bit odd to encounter an albino rabbit of all things." He eyed the hare's red eyes curiously, as he did the snow white coat. "Why would there be such a creature in such a thick forest..... Surely he should have been eaten by now...."

The rabbit would turn to the left, staring at the group at some point when they started to converse. At this point, a familiar feeling should creep to the spines. Rabbits always keep their heads sideways when they are observing something...

A low sound is heard and the rabbit turns it's head back towards the group. On it's right a loud noise is heard and as you instinctively turn to look, blood splatters and you hear a sound 'Tsak' -- blood is still flying on the air towards the left and this loud sound came from the same direction. You hear the sound again in short succession, ('Tsak' - 'Tsak' - 'Tsak' ) like a machine gun. The sound is distancing from you, furthering away deeper into the forest.

The rabbit is no more. But there are minuscule splatters of blood all around.

On the origin of the 'attack', the bark of the tree has been torn apart. And from that tree, there is a direct line to the next tree, bark torn and there are splinters coming off. Something clawed had touched it forcefully. And whatever it was, it was fast. Incredibly fast...

And it had left a trail that was quite easy to follow.

It had been quickly that the quiet inspection had been interrupted. Not that the inspection had yielded much other then the fact that the rabbit was facing the group but not looking at them. A nervous glance from one of the Caroleans was cast into the forest, searching for what it was that the rabbit was looking for. What could it have been studying, other then the group that was here in front of them? The answer did not take long. Blood spattered the group, whether it was of the rabbit or of someone else it did not matter, as a loud noise like a machine gun echoed around them and then headed deeper into the forest, leaving claw marks on the trees and blood spatters all around the ground. Whatever the creature was it was fast indeed. Carolus was the first to break out of the shock and stride up to the stump to inspect the claw marks, Chu and the Caroleans watching behind him. It had been so fast that none of them had even seen the creature, an unholy beast if Chu had ever seen one. Yet, it had not attacked the SOULs of the group, instead choosing to go after the rabbit.

Carolus, who had been crouching to inspect the claw marks on the stump, turned around and faced the rest of the men. Chu and Carolus's eyes met. "That was no calamity seed, to be certain, else we would have been attacked by now." Chu nodded in response. "I had been thinking the same thing. What's our next move then?" Carolus scoffed and looked down the trail, drawing his sword and indicating the obvious path. "Why, we play the role of kind guests, and follow the path that our host has so graciously set for us." The men, who had been disheartened at the previous attack that had been so fast they had not been able to see it, took heart at the impetuous display of confidence, and straightened up. Carolus said no more and advanced upon the path set for them, with Chu and the Caroleans following.

A path that lead them deeper into the forest, leaving the area.

Sho made his way to the forest, finding it wasn't much different from the last time he'd been here. There may have been other places to look for monsters that weren't as easy to get lost in (if it weren't for the COMB), but he was an Elf after all, so a forest was more refreshing than most other environments. The last time he'd been here and gone deeper into the forest had been pretty unpleasant, but hopefully whatever he found this time wouldn't be too bad. Sho tried to avoid being seen by any CS as he continued scouting through the forest, hiding behind trees and any other available obstacles as he searched for any groups of CS they could fight.

For better or worse, the serene Rinhain Forest seemed to be living up to its adjective. Though normal life seemed to have returned to the area since the misadventures of the Caroleans, no CS were bold enough to show themselves. Annoying as I'm sure it is to keep posting in different threads, Sho would likely have to search in another section if he wanted to find foes greater than small mammals or birds.

Sho didn't find anything unusual so far as he was sneaking around through the forest, with the only strange sight being a path left further into the forest. Other people had probably also gone that direction, so he decided to go check it out. Still trying to stay hidden as he scouted the forest, Sho left the area and followed the trail deeper into the forest.
