Studio 4°C launched an official website announcing an anime film adaptation of Daisuke Igarashi's supernatural mystery drama manga Kaijuu no Kodomo (Children of the Sea) on Monday. Details regarding the anime film will be announced at a later time.

Synopsis
When Ruka was younger, she saw a ghost in the water at the aquarium where her dad works. Now she feels drawn toward the aquarium and the two mysterious boys she meets there, Umi and Sora. They were raised by dugongs and hear the same strange calls from the sea as she does.

Ruka's dad and the other adults who work at the aquarium are only distantly aware of what the children are experiencing as they get caught up in the mystery of the worldwide disappearance of the oceans' fish. (Source: VIZ Media)

Kaijuu no Kodomo ran for five volumes in Shogakukan's Ikki magazine between December 2005 and September 2011. The manga received an Award of Excellence at the 38th Japan Cartoonist Association Awards and the 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Award in the manga division, and was nominated for the 12th and 13th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. VIZ Media published all five volumes under its SigIkki imprint from July 2009 to June 2013.
