I just bumbed into this tweet from "Crypton Hatsune Miku Official" and they officially announced VOCALOID Hatsune Miku to appear in episode 16 on April!!

Official Twitter Post

I'm just really here to mention, I don't even know the anime (honto gomen nasai!!) but I'm crazy fan of VOCALOID. Piapro announced on their blog with more details (in Japanese though). Feel free to take a look at it ^-^

Just watch her episode, while I love Vocaloid I've to admit that it's really an outdated voice synthesizer, and it really break suspension of disbelief. Look at https://deepmind.com/blog/wavenet-launches-google-assistant/ for state of art voice synthesizer.

Bruh... One cannot simply call Vocaloid as a whole outdated, since it is constantly improving. In other words, Vocaloid V2 is outdated, Vocaloid V4X which came out in August 2018 is not. See the difference? Also there are similar technologies like VSINGER, UTAU, etc. which I don't know if you meant to group into the category of outdated, but again I don't think it's accurate since they are getting new releases all the time.

The other point I have to make is that the comparison between WaveNet and Vocaloid is like that of a comparison between apples and oranges. WaveNet cannot sing, it is a Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine. Vocaloid is a singing TTS synthesizer. As an experiment, try making Google Assistant sing, or Hatsune Miku talk. I have tried the latter, which is extremely difficult. This is one of the reasons Miku in Shinkalion sounded so bad-- Vocaloid software is meant to sing, not talk. Now to take my point 360*, WaveNet is an outdated singer. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVEOwd0zPlk for state of the art song synthesizer. :P

Anyway, I'm curious as to why Hatsune Miku doesn't have credits in the Shinkalion entry. She is a registered character on MAL so I don't see why not.

There's already a journal on applying WaveNet architecture to existing vocoder (Vocaloid Maika by Voctro Labs in a Spanish song example) but none of this result is sold as a final Vocaloid product, see https://www.dtic.upf.edu/~mblaauw/NPSS/
Deep learning has been in hot topic for a few years but look like no Vocaloid company is hopping on that bandwagon yet.
